Now, Minecraft is in need of a new mob, so why not work on one thats partially done: Humans?
There's one thing that bugs me in Minecraft: Who built the Strongholds and Mineshafts?
Now before you say "Villagers", I had tested their intelligence: They aren't even smart enough to open their own front doors by themselves. You may also say "Endermen built them". We tested who could build better: Humans or Endermen? The Endermen had only made a tower of 2 blocks. The human we tested made a 4 block high tower.
So, the logical explanation behind Mineshafts and Strongholds?
Humans.
Humans would be a rare hostile mob that would spawn at any time, anywhere in the Overworld except for on non-solid or transparent blocks. There would be a feature for them that could make them have different skins, kind of like that one mod that makes animals have different skins so they weren't the same each time. (Can't remember the mod's name - if someone posts it I'll edit this to say the mod's name instead.) If you've played with the You Are The Creeper mod, you'd know theres different kinds of humans. That could be an addition, too. There would be 3 main kinds of humans:
Builder
Hunter
Gatherer
The builder would build with Stone Bricks, Wooden Planks, Logs, Cobblestone, and rarely place a Furnace or Crafting table. Now, this human would be the weakest and most common type. It would only have 5 hearts, do half a heart of damage, and on death drop logs and sometimes cobblestone.
The gatherer would be harder to find then builders, and easier then hunters. They would have 7 hearts and do 2 hearts of damage. They could take down trees and mine cobblestone, and would carry a Wooden/Stone pickaxe. On death, they'd always drop their pickaxe.
The hunter is the rarest and strongest type of human. They would carry a Stone (or rarely Iron) sword or sometimes a bow. They would rarely have leather (or even more rarely, iron) armor on when found. They would have 10 hearts (plus armor protection) and would do 4.5 hearts of damage despite their sword type. If they had a bow, they'd act exactly like a Skeleton, but dropping their bow and 5 - 10 arrows on death. If a sword, they'd drop their sword on death.
Note that all of the humans (except for the bow-carrying ones) will attack by just rushing you at the same speed of a player as soon as you're in their FOV (which is the same as a Zombie's).
--The humans, once friendly creatures who worked with Cavemen Squidwards, were intelligent creatures with knowledge of two dimensions: The End and The Nether. The humans had built Strongholds in the real world and Nether. The humans had eventually tried to construct portals to The End in the Strongholds in the over world, but couldn't get enough Eyes of Ender, due to the Cavemen Squidwards constantly stealing them. Eventually the humans became hostile, and had fought against the Cavemen Squidwards, wiping out millions of them and destroying their villages. A few of the villages had survived, though, and lived on in peace.--
I don't think there needs to be any explanation for Strongholds and Mineshafts; it's better to leave them mysterious. If there was an explanation, well, that turns Minecraft too much into an RPG in my opinion; too much story, not enough do-whatever-the-bloody-hell-you-want.
- Explanation: removes all the mystery and the possibility for each player to have his/ her own story. Plus your suggested story is dumb and doesn't fit the game style.
- Builder: Really annoying. Building things without the player controling it will just mess up worlds.
- Gatherer: worst of all. All it does is destroy the world completely.
- Hunter: just an OP way to get easy bows and arrows and swords.
Humans are already in the game, we call them Testificates (villagers are humans).
As for them being to stupid to build; that's a placeholder, you should know that.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

they aren't human. They're testificates. But yes, the current (dull) AI will change, and so your idea will pretty much be solved with no humans. That is, if they can open doors.

You can't make metre cubed pieces of rock get jiggy with each other, that's just WRONG.

This idea is a no-go.
Have you ever seen the millenaire mod? Dont be too harsh, these ideas arent gonna completely destroy your world. Only small regions of it.
The broad idea of other humans is good, but I don't like the details. I would like if there were some hostile ones (let's say raiders/barbarians) that would attack the player on-sight, and passive/neutral ones that just sort of walk around until you do something to them, like villagers but outside of villages.
