Not sure if it's been suggested, and too tired/lazy to check, but I think it'd be nice to have a Zombification Potion that includes using rotten flesh as an ingredient.
The potion's effect would be to make players neutral in the eyes of hostile mobs for the duration, but as a downside, the player would be set on fire in sunlight, would not regenerate health, and take damage from instant health potions while under this effect.
The 1:30 enhanced version using glowstone dust could either lessen the downsides from the potion (allow to regenerate health, or allow the use of instant health pots) and the 8:00 weaker redstone dust counterpart, could cause the player to lose energy at a faster rate.
However while under any of these potions, a player attacking a hostile mob who is currently neutral to them would cause the monster to retaliate, much like wolves and zombie pigmen.
EDIT: There could also be a splash version of this potion. If used on fellow players on SMP servers, they would all be given the Undead buff/debuff effects. If thrown at creepers, spiders, any other mob that isnt naturally undead, they would then combust in sunlight like zombies and skeletons, and take damage from instant health splash potions.
The idea of being able to apply the Undead status to other players would add an interesting element in outdoor pvp, in my opinion.
Great for exploring caves, but would you be able to mine? Or would you mine slower/sluggishly?
Well I think the hit you take not being able to regenerate or recover health and burning in sunlight is enough of a downside. Mining speed wouldn't be affected.
