Waves. you know its boring sailing,boating, whatever you want to call it in minecraft with no waves... honestly it would be fun and there could even be surfing in the game! :biggrin.gif: so in this extreeeeemely brief thread, what do you think?
DO YOU KNOW THAT HORRORS WOULD BE UNLEASHED UPON TO OCEAN BIOMES THEN ;_;
I . . . there is no way to put in waves without just shoving ALL OF THE THINGS into the fan and letting it be destroyed.
Waves don't work in a game with blocks. It works in games with a 3-D engine or whatever you must call it.
Waves could work if they just start somewhere close to a shore (like twenty blocks away) and wash one or two block onto the land (only moving towards the land)
I thought about this. The waves could be entities that use the water texture. They could spawn and have the same interactions with the player as water, except they push them like flowing water. Spawn these in rivers to make current and in oceans to make waves. Give them a movement pattern and presto: waves. You could even increase the spawn rate during storms to create more violent currents and break or push boats around to make sailing in storms difficult.
Just a thought, might cause too much lag but I don't think so. Wouldn't be more entities per chunk then a pig or chicken farm.
I think it could be done if you just had the animation of the waves be in 2D, like the shimmer in the water now. Perhaps adding wave sounds to it for effect.
Actually, I think I saw a mod that adds a simple wave effect to water (although they aren't dynamic and have no effect on gameplay). I believe it has something to do with shaders.
Actual waves would be more difficult, albeit interesting.

I don't know how to deal with this

Yes, how do you?
I kill animals!
You don't
And then the entire game drops to 1 FPS.
This would just cause a whole pile of lag.
(for most computers anyways)
