The void portal would be made like a nether one, but the corners would need to be gold blocks. The void is a never ending, empty space for building. The background is white, and the ground is made of solid Void Stone, a light grayish rock. In multiplayer, each person has their own void, and when entering the void, you have an option to go to your void, or enter the name of another person to go to theirs. Their would also be a permission button, where you can enter all the names of trusted people on the server to put them on a sort of White-list for people who can enter your void. Server owners would have an option called Max Void Chunks, to choose the number of chunks that each player can have in their void before they stop loading. This keeps the map from getting too large.
The void could be used in singleplayer for storage and building purposes, but the emphasis would be on multiplayer, where people can make buildings and store important items, keeping them safe from griefing.

Decent idea? Let me know what you think.
No. The void is a physical limit on height and depth in minecraft and should remain as so.
Though if you went through the end, the nether, and THIS thats gonna cost alot of memory/ram/cpuSomeone might create a mod for this otherwise
I see no point of this being added in to minecraft
The simplest way to prevent griefers from wrecking your stuff:
1. Get a bukkit server (the vanilla server sucks for anything but small servers).
2. Whitelist only trusted people.
3. Install logblock or some other plugin like that.
4. ???
5. Profit!
If you want to build, just flatten some land. This could quickly cause problems, because if the server is large, and each player had his/her own large Void world, that can take up a lot of memory.

That's why I noted that server owners can only let people load so many chunks in their void. Would having maybe 16 extra chunks per person take up more memory/RAM than if you loaded 16 chunks per person in the overworld?

What if you want to build with a friend?
