First of all, use search. This has already been suggested in the past, and discussed in detail. Not that I think that it's a bad idea, but putting all the support into one good topic does more good than twenty or more little topics that only five people bother to look at, and most of those people who didn't like the first.
No, it would make it too easy. Plus it would make crafting less interesting.
Punch out one log, kill two to three Spiders, have material left over, maybe make second bow. Can be done in the day without even getting attacked.
Kill three to five Skeletons, get one bow and a paltry amount of ammo. Must be done at night with other mobs running around.
I'm not seeing the "too easy". Oh, I suppose it would be better if they dropped a damaged bow, and you had to get two or more to have full durability, but that's about it. Oh, and if you plan on bringing up mob grinders...just don't. Thanks to mineshafts, it's even easier to make a Spider grinder than a Skeleton grinder. Both are equally broken, and the only time mob traps should ever be considered is when you're talking about something like Diamonds. For things that come entirely from renewable resources to begin with, it's just not that big a deal.
Also...what exactly is interesting about crafting? You put things on a grid. You take something from the output.
So exciting...
What ya starin at fool? grab a gun and run before they come at ya.
