Though not everyone will accept this suggestion, I think it would help quite a few amount of people including me.
So here is the idea:
Let's say I have a town, which I have been building for quite some time now. Let's also say that I have many stores that one day I would like npc's to run.
What would happen if we could make the npc's actually SAY something?
Just like a sign is used, we used signs to get some quick message across to our users and friends, especially on servers.
Usually when we join a server, we see signs that have rules of the server, how we should start etc.
What if we were able to do the same thing with Npc's?
For example:
I put a command on an npc at the spawn point of my server and I basically write what he will say whenever someone passes by. Let's say I place the Npc, and whenever I cross him, a empty speech bubble showing that the npc is supposed to say pops up. Now lets say I tell him to write "Greetings traveler! Welcome to the Narnia" Now whenever I player passes him his little speech bubble will pop up and he will say what I have commanded him to.
So now lets go back to what I said about the stores.
What if I was able to make the npc's of the stores welcome the players and ask them questions like what they would like to buy?
What if the npc's were actually smart, and were able to interact with the player?
Lets say I walk into one of my tool shops.
The NPC says "Welcome to the tool shop..."
And from the menu I choose a wooden axe
and the npc says "that will cost you 1 iron ore" or whatever the value may be.
Just a quick example anyway...
It seems that I am leaning toward something like mmorpgs have in their games with quest.
I would love to see something like:
You walk up to an npc, press on him and press "talk"
HE tells you something, and you have a choice of replies. Your reply triggers his next reply as well.
This would be really cool, especially if the admins of the server or the owner of the world would be able to write up by themselves what they want each individual npc to say.
I know this is really a challenge, and like my other post it would take a really long time to add into the game. But I think many people especially the leaders of servers would appreciate this.
Who WOULDN'T want a npc to talk, I would have a mega awkward conversation with one!
Haha that's the spirit!
I mean the npc's can do so much, it is incredible. They are one of the most important aspects in mmorpg games especially helping with the story line in the form of quests. I think minecraft would be able to take advantage in the same way. Besides, people who would not want the npc's to talk could just disable the option or something.
"Hey, a villager! :biggrin.gif:"
"..."
"What's up?"
"..."
"Want some diamonds?"
"..."
".... Hello?"
"..."
YES.
Now this is how the conversation would look like with this suggestion:
you "hey, a villager! :biggrin.gif:"
him "What else can I be? How may I help you on this fine day?"
you "What's up?"
him "Just hard work in the mines"
you "Want some diamonds"
him "Ofcourse.. who wouldn't you fool?"
you ".... Hello?"
him "I am still talking to you.."
