We all know Glowstone Dust is much, much like Redstone Dust. Unfortunaly, Glowstone Dust can't be used as Glowstone Wire, so why not suggest it could?
And if you're gonna suggest 'HERPA DERPA, but redstoan duzt iz mux, mux ezier too find!', we can't use Redstone Wire upside-down. As Glowstone alyways grows at the ceiling, wired Glowstone can easily hang upside-down, but not on the floor.
And this would of course drop the Redstone to the Trash Bin, so why not Redstone Blocks? they would grow as Stalagmites in the Overworld at deep underground, but would be very rare to find. Redstone Blocks can be used to power Redstone Dust, but unfortunaly will drain out the light level within it's radius. It is useful to make a room dark enough for monsters to spawn, but bright enough for us to see.
Glowstone Blocks would also power Glowstone Wire, which the latter also provides a light level of 11. Redstone Blocks should look like Glowstone Blocks, exept they would be red instead. Of Course, Redstone Wire will connect with Glowstone Wire.
If this were to be done, I would suggest glowstone dust should only work on the ceiling or vertically on walls, meaning that they both have their uses.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.

Sounds like a very detailed and well thought out suggestion!
I totally dis-agree with making a redstone block power redstone as we already have a redstone torch which can easily be created with mealy a stick and 1 redstone dust! So I don't see why that you would want to use more redstone to power the same amount of 1 redstone torch.
Other than that I totally /agree
They are 3x stronger than a single Redstone Torch. To prevent making them overpowered, they drain out the light level around them.
I think that redstone circuits are already too difficult to use in the game, due to the fact that you can't let redstone go vertical, on ceilings, etc... And due to the fact that not gates use redstone torches which require a height difference to work, rather than using the same principle as the repeaters for not gates.
Requiring another type of material for wiring ceilings does not improve the situation imho, it makes it worse...

So, hope people will like this suggestion.
But I said they would only work on the ceiling.

I scanned the OP and I didn't see anything saying it would only work on the ceiling. If that is the case, how would it obselete redstone?
