Hello forum. I was watching a Yogscast video where it was apparent that an adventure map creator was having great trouble with NPC's and immersion. Creating something out of sticks and a pumpkin is cheesy and can't move, and using a snow golem is unreliable and uncontrollable. I don't have that much free time with school and all, and there is some small chance that I will choose to make this mod myself, but regardless I wanted to share the idea with everyone. The idea is simple, you use ingredients like iron, redstone, and diamond (for the sake of rarity) to create a 'robot' or 'npc' or what have you. From here, it will work a lot like NPC's work in Little Big Planet. You place your robot thing down, then right click on it to enter its interface. Here, you can change several options at any time, for example: Movement mode (Follow player, kill enemies, kill animals, wander, loiter), Passive mode (fighting back) and speech. Regarding the speech, the player can enter text, almost like a sign, and the robot will 'say' this, probably by displaying a speech bubble- at the appropriate time. Finally, the user can dress up their npc as they wish, and even apply any skin they wish if they have the .png handy. This mod will add a huge degree of immersion and effectiveness for the game, especially for adventure maps (this will absolutely improve adventure maps in fact) and it could potentially make single player mode much less lonely. For example, in your base behind a bar you could have a butler npc that greets you when you come close to it, or a guard npc outside that defends you (perhaps a defending npc requires more expense) and you can even use one of these as a companion for adventuring. Let me know what you think and if you might take on the project or help me with it! Who knows, if I sum up the passion during winter break and refresh my Java skills, I might jump on it myself!
