I've seen quite a few ideas saying things like "Bring back the old generation", "Change generation to be X", and the likes, but many of them are either too demanding or not specific at all. I've thought about how some people would want to keep their normal generation, or don't agree with the OP of the threads. But, if (when starting a world,) you could choose the terrain generation to as different style, then people would be happier.
Just like how the seed choice and structure generation toggle are in the "More world options" tab, there would be a world generation dropdown bar under those two.
The first two types of generations would of course be Classic and Normal, but the player could also add more world generations to a folder named "World Gens" or something like that. (just like the texture pack folder.) When a generator is added to the folder, (Classic and Normal are in the binary files,) it is added to the list. This would let the player use modded world generators (like the planetiods and biosphere ones) in addition to the pre-1.8 and Normal ones.
I don't really see much of a difference besides biomes and colors of the world. I think this world generation key is smarter and more in depth. Though this is a good idea it might be a slight waste of time for you or a modder. Still great idea for the people who want it.
i like the biome thing Armadylspark suggested maybe with the chose of picking the ones you want and the
% they would spawn (for me 45% mountain 45% dessert 10% swamp) in addition to the mod support Blade Avuari talked about this would really make this worth the time. i think anyway.

Waste of time? Not at all. There are some very impressive world generators out there that makes people cry with glee every day. This is a great suggestion, because it highlights the need for mod support in this area.
Good idea, Blade! Hopefully when looking for mod support ideas, the team sees this.
I just thought of something. You know how Hipplantimus made the piston mod and Mojang used that for pistons? Maybe they'll be smart enough to use hippo's world generation mod thing in a future minecraft version. And then hire him.
