As I'm sure we all know the ocean biome, while cool in it's realism, is relatively useless. It currently serves as a way to separate land masses, but give the massive size that the Ocean often takes it seems inconvenient to do so, even if you've exhausted an area of it's resources, the ravines in it can be cool, but they are filled with water making exploration pretty much impossible.
It could be improved with an "Ocean Floor" Biome. This could include Deep-Sea Mobs, Coral Reefs, Water-Specific Minerals, Harpoon Guns, and maybe some sort of much desired Breathing Apparatus
For deep sea mobs this could include sharks, jellyfish, maybe some sort of eel. And they would have some use. Sharks could drop Shark Teeth, which could be used for Potion making, Jellyfish drop tentacles, making a sort of paralysis potion.
Those are just examples. I'm sure if more time was given many more mobs could be thought of.
Finally, when I said a breathing apparatus. I'm not referring to a magic device that extends breath-length to infinity, but perhaps, when made out of different materials, offers varied lengths of an extended breath underwater. It could be refillable or consumable, either one would be incredibly useful. I know quite a few of our fellow Minecraft-er's who have complained about being limited underwater.
Just a suggestion I thought of in-game while killing some squid. What do you think?

Interesting idea, I would put this in the mods section though, because I bet once it becomes a mod, people will support the idea much more. Great Idea Though! What about useful items you can get from it though?

Not a bad idea to put it in the mod section... I'll copy/paste it there as well, see what kind of traffic it get's on both.
And as for the useful items, I'm not entirely sure because in real life I don't know too much about the ocean, haha. This could easily be a legitimate way to get Sponge again.
Some items that come to mind would be used could be pearls, plenty of different foods from specific mobs, certain kinds of stone (I know limestone makes up most of everything but the top layer of real Coral Reefs)
Another thing I just thought of would be underwater caverns, basically caves but filled with water so you need the breathing gear specifically to explore them. I think that would be kind of cool.
I Fully support this, my map is half ocean so this would be an amazing thing to have for my map, plus im tired of there being no water mobs besides squid!
