Here's an idea for a fun enchantment to put on boots. "Delayed gravity"
This would be a cartoonish Wile E. Coyote style effect. If you walk off a ledge, not jump, the empty floor beneath you is treated as solid ground for a brief period of time. The game would just prevent you from falling below your current y axis level. After that period of time you'd fall normally. You'd also fall immediately if you look straight down.
The effect would last for 1 second per enchantment level, maxing out at 3 seconds for level III boots.
You could walk around while under delayed gravity effects, so you could use this to walk over a chasm. You can also sprint and jump while under delayed gravity, but jumping would end the effect. So you could sprint off a ledge, run under delayed gravity for a bit, and then jump right before the effect ends, allowing you to travel over considerable distances.
