I have been thinking about this for awhile, and I think that these would make the game a richer experience. Obviously most of these would be for the sandbox mode only:
Block types:
Moving Blocks: There would be two blocks involved with this. A moving block that launches off of a solid block, moving away from it until it hits something else solid, at which point it moves back. A few quick diagrams:
O = Moving Block X = Solid Block
Overhead:
XO ---> X O ---> X O
I shouldn't have to use any more than that
Turning blocks: These would be used with Moving Blocks. You would be able to go through it, but not build in it. You put them in chains of three or more, and the moving block would follow it
[] = Turning Blocks
Overhead:
XO [][] ---> X [][O]
[] []
X [][]
[]
O
Simple idea really (not sure about programming though >.>)
Teleportation Blocks: Probably has been suggested before. What I am proposing, however, is a way to implement it without it taking up a lot of room. We have many varieties of cloth blocks, so I am thinking this. Normally, Teleportation blocks would look like an ornate stone block with no function. When it is in contact with a cloth, however, it turns on. It will glow the colour of the cloth. If there is more than one colour, then it will stop glowing and turn off. Red teleport blocks go to red, blue to blue, etc. If there is more than two teleblocks of the same colour, then they will randomly teleport you to one
No Build Blocks: You slave and slave and slave at a maze, and you soon finish it. Then somebody builds up and escapes. Cheater. Well, no more. These would have a 5x5x5 radius, in which nothing could be built. A simple idea. Admins could make a suped up version by typing the command /area. This command would change the radius of the blocks they build from 5x5x5 to 25x25x25. Admins would be able to build in the radius, just in case if there was a mischievous griefer
Light Blocks: A way for them to work. They would radiate light in all directions, but it would be stopped by other blocks. EG:
Light: I always hate how grass will die, no matter what. Then I thought, "What if there were shades of light?"
I think that there should be a new system for light. Five levels:
Sunny = What we have now
Cloudy = Between Sunny and the light in caves currently. Would be produced by clouds and five blocks into caves, from entrance to five blocks in. Grass can grow in this, as can certain plants. Sunny light that hits leaves automatically becomes Cloudy light
Average = Current lighting in caves now, maybe a little darker. Grass cannot grow. Neither can most plants. 5 blocks in from the end of cloudy
Dim = Darker than current cave lighting. Few things can grow in this. Also, ability to see is reduced to that of between normal and near fog. 5 blocks in from end of cloudy
Pitch = Can't see a thing. Only mold can grow in this. The rest of the cave
Magma: Would produce Average light
Glowing Mold: Would produce Dim light
Light Block: Would produce Sunny light
Fire: Would produce Average light. Needs to be built on wood
Plants and conditions:
Sunny: All plants but glowing mold and mushrooms
Cloudy: All plants but glowing mold
Average: Bushes, some flowers, mushrooms, and glowing mold
Dim: Mushrooms and Glowing mold
Pitch: Glowing Mold
Glowing mold would not be able to be planted. It would be generated at random in caves when the map first forms. It would require rock or wood to grow. It would grow fast (about 3x faster than grass)
Otherwise:
What about the ability to upload maps from our computer to single player, and the ability to download maps from single player onto our computer? Would allow people to share their single player creations. Also, those with OME would be able to go in and do fine tuning
EDIT: I forgot about one other thing:
A solid version of each block. Or at the very least, a solid version of glass as well. It sucks that griefers can destroy glass works so easily to let water or lava in =/
tl;dr
I'll read rest later.
But on the moving blocks part: Each time the block changed position it would use up 2 chunk updates. If a lot of people used these, there would be constant chunk updates, which can kill a server (rarely.)
That is a great idea. Maybe dont give it to regular people because greifers will inlay them in the ground and everyone will be flipping out because they cant build :/

I think that lighthing though water should also work the same as it would with the cave system. So 5 blocks underwater would be cloudy, 10 blocks underwater average, etc.
So when you place glass or a sponge, plants and grass can actually grow there.
Knew my ideas would be similar to some. My ideas seem to be more in depth though [except for the second light link. My light block idea seems similar to that]
Glad people like the ideas
asianRangerz: I thought about that, hence why I suggested average people would only get a 5x5x5 one, to limit griefing. But yeah, maybe making it Admin only would be better. Perhaps have stone blocks turn into these blocks by typing /Nobuild or /NB. And the blocks could then be yellow coloured with a neon green dot, with an indestructible version being the same, but with a black dot instead
And Snowman, I love that idea. Maybe even a seaweed block to go with water
Another idea: I like the idea of a variety of plants and blocks. Maybe have three pages, which you can switch by pressing either the left or right arrow keys. Page Two (the one you open on when you log in) would be normal blocks. Page One would have special blocks (teleblocks, sponges, light blocks, etc.), and Page Three would have all of the plants
I still think Sponges (and any other area-effect blocks) need to have a modifiable radius/area. Say you just want a sponge to wall off all water in a 1x10x10 vertical wall?
No-Build blocks would be great for griefer protection, as it'd allow people to protect their buildings without infringing on others' right to build, as in a read-only/priveleged building mode.
