I was mucking around in Single Player today (Not what I usually do)
And I was screwing around with the Mobs. I was channeling them around the map for a laugh.
then it came to me I had around 100+ All on screen at once with still a solid frame rate of 50FPS, Although they were all stiff (had no animation)
So then I thought. Perhaps in the future a Left 4 Dead type gamemode would be possible, The only thing to overcome the issues of lag would be to have the NPC in a Idle animation (E.g no Animation)
Well it's sort of supporting the Zombie Survival Gamemode, Although I'm suggesting Players against NPCs instead of PVP on a large scale, E.g 1 Player shooting 100+ zombies on screen all at once
For some reason mine didn't animate which is why I had a good frame rate, I was thinking you could still them in a stiff zombie stance (Arms up in the air)
As for the Zombie survival I know it's confirmed, I was trying to get it to be Player Vs NPC rather than what I think it could end being as PVP
I don't think the rendering was gonna be the problem, but the server won't have to send the information of the location of each mob for each client? i think that a large scale like 100 would cause server lag.
Unless they had a pattern.

The current protocol actually allows for 127 people to be on a server (limited to 32 in the software to prevent lag and buffer overflows). I think if there was a zombie survival mode player limits might be lower (8 maybe?) to allow for large Zombie invasions. If it was 8 then you could have 24 zombies in the game without any problems really. Probably even more. I'd say you'd only really start getting server lag on average computers at around 56 zombies (64 characters on the map at once).
Obviously 24 is a decent amount of zombies. (Isn't L4D like 20 or something) so it should be fun. I have a Zombie based game mod planned in my head actually :tongue.gif:

So I don't know... Could be cool
Lol, he probably had a typo.
Former #minecraft channel operator.
Probably.
But, I'm a bit confused about this idea.
EDIT:
As for Gobs I got it wrong XD
As for the zombie gamemode. This has already been confirmed by Notch to be a future gamemode.
Linky
I thought it was limited to 100?
I've had the max on with around 1fps drop. Though to be fair, I was doing loads of other stuff at the time.

Oh Idk how many I had. It were a lot. I thought it was over 200. Must've been mistaken.
