If we're having teams versus each other we could 'borrow' and idea from Dungeon Keeper (again :3 I love being evil, it's good :biggrin.gif:) and fortify walls making it impossible/more difficult for enemies to dig through. Or perhaps, have an additional 2 block types (or more if we have more than 2 teams). Which only people on that team can dig through (or is more difficult for enemies to dig through). This keeps with the current map format of 1-byte per block.
Sorry for the lack of details, I was posting this as a part of the doors thread to answer someones question about digging around doors. But I thought it deserved it's own topic. :biggrin.gif:
Makes sense. I was also thinking that maybe there could be blocks that only the person who placed them could dig though, but admins could dig through anything, of course.

Let me answer that with a GIF.
I don't know how many times I will have to say OWNERSHIP WILL NOT BE IMPLEMENTED!
Yeah, they can be to easy to grief with if that's the case, though a team block idea I like, it could be used in more then just walls even, though would you have to make a /command to set a person to a team or something? as it's not just going to know who's on what team.

<TrueWolves> That's what I meant Iguana, I'm like an Extra+, to just fill in tiny cracks... right?

Yes it would. Say if it was a Lua based team game.
You could have a command that runs on initialization of the game. Setting a person to a team when the join. Then set something like block density (keyword for the amount of digs per deletion) to 0 so that it would be impossible to dig through.
I'd not like team based blocks though... Atleast not the part with only one team being able to dig.
I'm more in favour of EVERYONE having a hard time digging through them.
I'm also more in favour of teams not being locked in team games. Most players would form alliences because they would be more likely to survive. You could be an heremit, but chances would be that you would be prestered alot by the other alliances for your resources. Also, harder to grow sufficient amount of food alone.

Agreed about it being hard for everyone. It's the only one that makes sense realistically, and it also makes the most sense from a gameplay perspective.
The second part is already solved. Notch said in his blog we'd have both, under the names FFA and Team Survival. Former being just that, no teams, everyone for themselves, with of course people having the option to help each other. The latter being fixed teams with no friendly fire (i think).
I didn't mean for team survival or anything. In fact I had a game mode planned in my mind. Which is based off Dungeon Keeper. So I'd like to have fortified walls that are team independent. Anyway I'm sure it can be accomplished in Lua anyway. So if I do attempt to make a game mode in it I can make it myself :biggrin.gif:

Example tiem:
if(joinedGame == true){
if(redTeamCount Teams.Red.Count then
player.Team = Teams.TeamBlue
Teams.Blue.Count = Teams.Blue.Count + 1
else
local teamtoset = Teams.RandomTeam()
player.Team = teamtoset
teamtoset.Count = teamtoset.Count + 1
end
end

I disagree with you, therefore you are wrong.
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
Ohh now I know what you are talking about.
Like when you posses a imp and try taking out their walls ON YOUR OWN?
If thats it I get it.
If its not. o.0

Like Infiniminer?
Sort of?
...
Where you cant mine through a block?
o.0
I'm confused.
Yay.
Also, evilgrim, it's walls that are either EXTREMELY difficult for enemies to dig through, or just plain impossible.
Another aspect to prevent spamming of them, they take time to build?
or resources, or both. Anyway, they should be spammable to some extent.
Heehee.
I'm thinking of something...
Dungeon keeper!
