Pretty much every server I've been on has roads of some sort. Usually they just make it easier to navigate the map, but don't make things go any faster. It'd be nice to have blocks that pushed you in a certain direction. If you built roads out of this material you could make travel time a lot shorter, and if could open up some fun gameplay ideas too.
The title is misleading. Do you mean blocks that move you quickly or blocks that move through space as you stand on them? Also, how would the latter work with roads?

Ah, cool. I like the conveyor belt idea. Maybe there could be different speeds and types. You could have your basic conveyor belt, maybe have it move you 2x or 3x as fast as walking, then a speedy conveyor belt that moves you 5x or 10x as fast as walking, and then a super conveyor belt which moves you 25x or 50x as fast as walking. Or instead of a super conveyor belt, you could have speed boost tiles that look like the ones from Sonic or MarioKart.

I think the idea would add a lot to the game because it not only would add convenience (make travel across the map easier), but it could also be used for fun (games that force you to navigate the blocks).
This could be useful for conveyor belts and the sort, but maybe also for obstacle courses, elevators, etc. Sometimes stairs can be annoying. (Especially spiral stairs that go on and on.)

Either way, I like this suggestion. I was wondering; will they only move you if you stand on top of them, or can the player stick to any side and be pulled along?
I think allowing players to only be moved by the top of the block would be the easiest to program in, since gravity would make players "stick" to the top of the block anyway. any other side would require some extra code to let players "stick".
