I know there's a mod for that, it would be nice to have it installed into Minecraft itself so that we don't have to wait for the mod to update every time an official Minecraft update comes out. I was thinking earthquakes, avalanches, and hurricanes.
They could create a new type of Biome called Snowy Mountain to accommodate the Avalanche, which would be basically a Mountain covered with Snow.
I was thinking that Earthquakes could happen in Plains, Deserts and Tundra most often, and a little less often in Forests of any kind and Mountains. The Earthquakes could create huge ravines, and your camera would shake when this event happens- that way you know when an Earthquake happens.
Avalanches would happen only in Tundra or Snowy Mountains, if they are ever created. The snow would suffocate you, and it would be much harder to get out of than water.
Hurricanes could happen on Plains and maybe Desert. It would inflict over 10 hearts damage (it would also damage armor) by picking you up and flinging you through the air. The impact of you hitting the ground would kill you. Luckily, you would have armor to protect yourself against the Hurricane.
I was also thinking about Hurricanes, but can see no way to make that work using the Minecraft graphics.
We already have weather, but I think this would be a welcome addition. The events would be an object of fear- something that is incredibly dangerous but yet no one can guard against.
What do you think? Feel free to add new ideas in the comments.
Tornadoes sound cool but avalanches come from shifting snow falling from mountains. Wee don't have piles of snow in minecraft, but if that made snow blocks spawn then it would be cool. The earthquake sounds good on paper but imagine.
You finish you huge 700 by 700 castle made with gold and diamonds it took you months and you so excited to finally get a look at it and see your work. You walk about about 50 blocks to get a good look turn around and a earthquake rips it a part. You have a attack of nerd rage have a heart attack and die of childhood obesity.
I'd be fine with it, but it should be an optional thing twweakable in the options menu, so that a person building a fantastic structure doesn't ragequit the game for the rest of their life, because an earthquake touched one block.
Hurricanes could happen on Plains and maybe Desert...
I was also thinking about Hurricanes
What happened there? Also, I've always thought that we could have sandstorms in deserts and tornadoes in forests and plains that would have a % chance to push and blow around non-stone blocks (i.e. sand, gravel, dirt, wood). Sandstorms would be accompanied by a dust particle effect (like tan rain) and you could get hit/buried by blowing blocks of sand or have the ground shift from under you. Also the earthquake seems a little extravagant, if you play long enough the earth would be riddled with chasms. Perhaps if they were separated by magnitude with little ones shifting non-stone player placed blocks over a block and big ones breaking glass and making pits of varying depth along randomly generated fault-lines. Hurricanes could use the same type of 'wind physics' as tornadoes and sandstorms but only affecting areas within x chunks of a body of water that is x chunks in size. Avalanches would work if we differentiated loose snow that obeys gravity and packed snow. Loose snow could be created after x periods of snowfall occur on a snowy block and you can also fall through loose snow while walking on it without snowshoes, and it would turn into packed snow after even more snow or after an avalanche. Although getting the landslide effect would probably need some very complex coding. Also volcanoes, that is all. :tongue.gif:

My character jumps higher than your character.
Your awareness of your surroundings rivals that of Dora the Explorer.
This thread is highly insulting as the author only had to look on the FRONT page to see a similar much-more-indepth suggestion covering the same thing. It didn't even require a search.
Instead of supporting and approving, the OP found it was much more prudent to spam the forum with a redundant post. I don't mean to sound like a **** here, but what the OP has displayed is a careless lack of respect for the community and I refuse to support it for that principle.
As Yoshi stated, it has been suggested before. Don't you think it would make more sense to support that topic rather than make another topic?

The laws of magic are absolute. The laws of physics are optional.

Now reconsider your idea of earthquakes.
