Completely agree with you on every point there. Except, how can siliocon (we're talking about the element, right?) glow? I didnt know that.
Silicon doesn't glow as far as I'm aware, but it is responsible for circuits in your computer than run the screen, so might as well stretch reality to find something that works...
I love these ideas and would love to see the mod.
. If anyone would like to borrow any ideas from my UPGRADE COMPLETE thread they are more than welcome. I must warn it has a bit of a wall of text at the start since I wrote it on the wii but some the ideas might fit into one or more of the dimensions. It was locked a while ago though, but only becuase I did not know you could only post one idea or several closely related ideas together. Most of the ideas I think are somewhat related anyway because they are about upgrades or new uses to normal items.
Please add me to the support list and let me know if you like/might add any of my ideas.
hmmmm, just realised that the new world height means that the WD can be bigger, skylands more spread, bosses can be bigger.
i think the behemoth might benefit a lot from this, and now that i think of it i'd like to see a leviathan boss.
the boss dimension portal is found in a massive nether fort stronghold, and takes you to a nether brick coloseum, where you fight a huge hulking deamon gladiator. Twice as tall and twice as wide, wearing strips of leather armor, with a reddish skin and black eyes, with long curved horns.
Killing it give you maybe a unique sword or armor.
I have done a little testing with block textures and such, currently I have done some of the suggested ores. Though the idea might get scrapped, I am enyoing it. So if there is a block texture you want me to make, then just say so.
nice, but it hink that platinum, titanium and magnesium should either all have the standard ore look, or all have ones different that are not the standard one
The ores are not individualized. But here goes:
From left to right: ruby, saphire, emerald, platinum, titanium? and magnesium?
And nether boss frame?
THe blocks beside are nether brick, my texture pack that i am using is buggy.
The gems and platinum are fine, but I think Titanium and Magnesium could be better, maybe Mg could be a yellow-orange coal texture and Ti could be a brighter Iron, or make it look like Pt and give Pt a darker white with yellow highlights.
What type of boss? Most people want a kraken, because they're uncreative. I want a bone megalodon with dunkleosteus minions. It can fire lasers.
I think this is a great idea, especially for a mini-boss and directly correlates with fossils and necromancy, but I don't think it says "water dimension" the way an octopus or eel can...

When I said universal ores are better, you replied basically saying "It's OK, every new ore is just a pointless duplicate of a current ore, for example, titanium is just retextured iron." A dupiate of iron is the stupidest thing any mod maker has ever done. Universal ores replaces the ten pointless duplicates with the original thing. Iron definitely needs to be universal, it's a nice metal with tons of recipes, and a durability of 255. Do you want to replace iron with another ore with the same stats, just less uses? Coal is in every place with life, and diamonds are compressed coal. At least make coal, iron, and gold universal. Also, I'd like to note, gold is dropped by zombie pigmen.
I prefer that we have the same ores for every dimension, but the way you obtain them is different from each dimension. Like you get gold nuggets from the zombie pigmen in the Nether, but you got to mine to obtain gold in the Overworld.
Anyway, random boss suggestion:
Silver Jellyfish
or Jelly Silverfish
Appearance:
It would look like a big semi-transparent spiky block with tentacles and black dots as eyes (Like the silverfish) and is about 1.5 times the size of a ghast.
Arena:
The arena would just be a plain quite big hollowed out cave with smooth surfaces, some kind of light source and its own type of stone. (Probably an open roof with the moon staring down)
Movement type:
It floats around in the water.
Method of attack:
It wont try to attack you itself, but if you bump into it or it bumps into you. You will get damaged and receive a small poison and blindness de-buff. (like the ones you get from potions) If you actually manage to hit it, it will just like the silverfish, spawn small Silver Jellyfish which will track you down and try to kill you. These wont poison you, but you will still receive the blindness de-buff.
Effects on landscape:
As the boss fight continues you will probably be able to hit the Silver Jellyfish which results in stone being removed and the landscape will turn quite a lot more jagged than it originally was.
Vulnerabilities/defeating:
Nothing special here even though it is advised to take care of the small jellyfish so that they won`t just swarm you. The "bane of Arthropods" would work as well on both the boss and the smaller silver jellyfish minions.
Death/death animation:
When the Silver Jellyfish dies it will start shrinking before it will explode shooting out a lot of silverfish like spikes, which will do knockback, but no damage to you. (Because it would be cheap if you got killed after defeating the boss) They would one-hit kill all the small jellyfishes though, just in case of emergency.
Drops:
I got no idea
Feel free to suggest something it might drop, feedback is appreciated, but try to be reasonable if you think it should be changed in any way. Nothing like "This idea sucks because I don`t like it". I`m probably going to flesh it out after a while.
I`m probably just going to repost this in one of the daughter threads when we have gotten those started, but it would be nice to know what you think.

at least make the stone texture unique with maybe a creative idea for stone from every dimension nether has netherrach so other dimensions should have something new too.
and firehawkdelta while universal ores might seem good in the long run they'll just make each deminsion seem like a redesigned overworld with only unique mobs and generation (and possibly one or two blocks)
What I want is not just that it's retextured iron, coal and diamond, but that the new stuff in each dimension should be crafted with each set of minerals unique to that dimension. Like a titanium air tank. It cannot be crafted with iron, platinum and quicksilver. See where i'm going? If i'm still going with titanium examples; titanium is a really strong material and could have a longer durability but maybe be not as fast as iron.
I agree with this. Ores should not be universal, as that would make each dimension less unique and less interesting, and mining them would be boring compared to the player's other options. Instead, as you said, they should pick up maybe some of the same uses as the overworld ores, in addition to having their own unique, practical uses. (Of course, the challenge is to find such uses for the ores, but I do already have quite a few block/ore suggestions for the skylands that I'm waiting to post on its daughter thread.)
I would have been hesitant to support the addition of many new ores before the increased block ID limit and (at some point) infinite textures were implemented, but that's no longer a problem.
you know what i think? no ores at all! except in the overworld ofcourse :tongue.gif: as the overworld is the earth dimension it should have the ores. make that the separate gameplay element of the overworld! the nether has potions, the overworld material-crafting!
I vote that you should only be able to get certain ores in certain dimensions, otherwise, putting all the ores in the overworld just deems them useless in the other dimensions. Unless, of course, they're very rare in the overworld, but more abundant in say, the Nether.
That would be fine. I think the larger theme should be that each dimension (or group of dimensions -- the main realm and its side realms) is very separate and unique from the others, with minimal overlap. I just think that would make the experience more interesting.

Wouldn't the special gameplay element of the overworld be enchanting? Or maybe smelting?

lol, it kind of was a random 5 secs i dea i had, and i think enchanting would fit the aeter more, maybe it would have special rune pages and books with special powers when coupled with an enchanting table by crafting, like these enchants: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1055289-better-enchantments/

Enchanting would be nice for the skylands, but I was actually thinking that maybe alchemy could be the official gameplay element for it.
Btw, nice suggestions for the enchanting. :smile.gif:
Perhaps you can still enchant in the overworld but you can attain hgher levels with less xp in other dimensions?
That's a unique idea. I mean, it would probably take a lot of effort to get to another dimension in the first place, so that could be one of the more immediate arewards. (lol tired)
well im just glad universal ore are out because i believe that this mod will be 4 times better than the aether mod (4 awesome dimensions added to than just one (that includes better end and improved nether))

I have a W.D. boss idea, I'm just waiting for the appropriate daughter thread too post it in.
It's way different then what other people have suggested.

can you upload them so we can see how they are?
