Okay, but I still think that we should wait for daughter threads, as we can then think of blocks, mobs and terrain. You CAN try to make a generation code or two, but what does it help us if we don't even know how exactly it has to look?
That's the intention of it -- just to throw around some ideas, before deciding on the final product. Also, it's perfectly fine with me if a lot of things I code don't actually get implemented, since whatever I would code at this point would obviously just be for experimentation.
PS: He said he is looking for java devs? Never saw that post XD . However, that's not the point: I actually are experienced with C++(and html+some javascript, though I guess this doesn't count much). Now I maybe want to code minecraft stuff in java. Do I have a big advantage because of this? How much time does it take?
It's because, while I'm interested in C++ and game programming itself, I would like to be able to create minecraft mods.
I think learning Java and modding should be pretty easy for you if you know C++, and I definitely encourage you to do so. :smile.gif:
EDIT (in response to shadooklaw) : As I said above, whatever I code now is intended for experimentation, not a final mod.

i get that and encourage that, so go ahead, my point was that there isnt a lot of experimentation to do without some good ideas and structure, which are achieved with the daughter threads.

Yeah, I understand, and you're right; I will need more concrete ideas to code anything beyond basic prototypes of the terrain, and I don't even know what the terrain for, say, the Nether's side dimensions might be like (as probably no one does for sure). I'm just really excited about this idea and its potential, so I wanted to go ahead and sign up to become a dev potentially, and present some suggestions and possibilities while I'm at it.
EDIT (to Kazuja) : Yeah, it would be nice if he could make an appearance, so we could get the ideas rolling. The daughter thread plan is a very good one, so it would be nice if it could take shape soon.
not to continue the endless spewing of ideas here, but I may have come up with a solution for dimension ores and their uses.
Based on our intentions, we want to be able to start in any dimension and survive/thrive, so that's how we got the nether roots to get wood, so why don't we do this for the ores.
Just come up with new ones that do similar things.
Ex:
Ow-Coal
Kw-Magnesium
Ow-Iron
Kw-Titanium
Ow-Redstone
Kw-Copper
It makes it really easy to come up with the uses as well as the names and physics

What do think of this system???
It's best to make most ores almost universal, since gold is in both the nether and overworld now. Iron should be obtainable in every dimension somehow, and gunpowder is a very easy thing to make universal. We should give every dimension most of the basic things, but each has some major things the others don't.
Your backstory ideas are awesome, too :biggrin.gif:
The backstory thing started when I made one for the ender race. It's been expanded by many people but still has a simple rule. The ender race is pure darkness and destruction sent from the apocalypse to start the apocalypse. They first enter the worlds, sending the ender creatures that best suit their destinations. They then currupt the worlds with infinite monsters, destroying any inteligent races that've existed very quickly. Next, they wait for the corruption to take enough hold on the dimensions to destroy them and suck them into the end.
Now you come in. The worlds are on the verge of destruction. You don't know how you entered these worlds, but you plan on saving them. You fight the bosses to get the required materials to access the end. That's where you destroy the corruption, the source.
Of course, corruption doesn't dissappear that fast, it still takes time for it to dissappear, sadly, you'll never see that happen in your lifetime.

That's exactly the point I wanted to say. We can't experiment with something that doesn't exist.
Also, I still want to know where the hell jellomob just went? You know, it's all nice that we are still more or less productive, but it's getting boring if he doesn't already come up again and give savannah the permission to start threads for one or two dimensions. I think that would take like 30 minutes to message some guy with a sentence like "Yes, create a daughter thread" and edit the topic by one more link :dry.gif:
Well, I'm not angry with him, I'm just annoyed that we can't really go on.
It really is sad, we've come all this way and it might die off if he doesn't come back...

EDIT: most of the ores from different dimensions correspond with the ore in the same place on the overworld (ths does not count nether)
the above post is the suggested materials for dimensions by most recent post-poll.
In no post from this on has it been suggested to make gold ore in the nether. (unless i misrea something) also in current minecraft gold ore isn't in the nether either.
hmmmm, i think the universal ores idea is better, and then 1 or 2 special ores per dimension, and then we have the new gameplay elemts like brewing.
for one of the special ores i would like to suggest sulphur in the nether, not like gunpowder, but sulpur clumped by the heat of the nether and could be used as fuel for 16 smelts.

Yeah, and maybe it could also be used in TNT, maybe replacing sand...
I really would like to see some of these things implemented, it would be really cool, and add the necessary things for each dimension...but would change where some of them go...
New snapshot is out. They added iron golems which protect villagers.
This proofs that villager mobs are absolutely capable of building guardians themself. This supports the theory of blazes as guardians of nether citizens. In fact, blazes could be the nether equivalent of iron guardians.
Oh yeah, and castle in the sky was a wonderful movie, I love the reference with the rose. Actually, this movie was one of the inspirations for my backstory: The nether fortresses are once forgotten castle-like structures. But one time, the whole city died out for some reason. However, its arsenal is still working and really huge, the blaze guardians being some kind of drone-robots and the serpent the ultimate war machine. But contrary to the robots in the movie, all of the blazes are still active and there was nothing they could do other than continuing their work like nothing happened(because hell is quite hostile and they don't have some purpose other than guard).
Before it's destruction the Nether was home of the Pigmen, super engineer's that made the best machines, but then the Ender attacked and turned their world into hell.
The blazes were the mechanical military, they went insane after the ender massacre.
They also went into genetics, making something that could fly, like the blaze, except they could hold passengers, the ender turned it into another monster.
The pigmen were turned into monstous images of themselves, they still have some pigmanity left in them, they don't attack you until you attack them.
What made them an engineering race? Their guardian was the Mother machine, a being able too calm all machines, but turned everything made by the pigmen into evil machines when it got tainted by the ender.
What do you think of my mini-story?
P.S. what do guy's think of a story mode for the mod.
P.S. what do guy's think of a story mode for the mod.
The mod could have an explanation on your mission to destroy the ender race. Less plot, you make that on your own. Just make the boss fights and required locations and we have it.
There should be a replacement to coal, iron and diamond in every dimension.
I.O.M there not too many ores if you follow this logic. The other ores (gold, lapis lazuli and redstone) are'nt really necesary if you ask me, though maybe there should be a replacement for redstone.
Nether:
Sulphur-:Coal: Quicksilver-
Ruby(i think we all agree on that)
Kyther:
Magnesium-
Titanium-
Sapphire-
Aether: Silicon-
Platinum-
Emerald-
Personally I don't like the idea of universal ores.
Tell me what you think of this IDEA.
Edit: Anyone up for long time discussion tomorrow after 12? My school ends at that time! :laugh.gif:
Just filling in what I thought might fit.
Silicon would be found on the first 3-10 blocks down from the surface of an island, and must be crafted with another material to make the torch, but Silicon would provide 2-4 bits, so there would be plenty. It would also be used in some simple electronic add-ons like sonar (for detecting certain things underground) or maybe my pump idea.
Quicksilver is acquired like iron, in ingot blocks, but when smelted creates a mercury-like liquid used in absorbing heat (lava and fire) as well as cold (snow). But if the ore is extracted, you get super-tough silver, which makes quicksilver rarer than iron, but more common than gold, and it is tougher and lasts longer than both.
Also had some redtsone thoughts
Nether
Magnetite
Kyther
Copper
Aether
Electure
Magnetite is a magnetic ore used in many recipes and that can also be used as a replacement for redstone, but its not as strong
Copper is an ore found uncommonly along reefs and tunnels that is a stronger replacement for redstone. When crafted with rubber though (obtained by smelting petroleum which can be refined into oil for an alternative fuel) it creates a wire that can be run underwater, directly under blocks, and run straight up walls and ceilings.
Electure is an electrically-charged ore that is found in and under dense storm clouds.
When you mine it, it provides one shard and can be crafted with silicon and {sky wood} to make a very bright {sky torch}. It also has some alternative uses as far as fueling and creating sentries, as well as defensive walls.
This is a really cool mod idea you've got going on and I'd be up for making a few mob textures if you want.
Would you go about having strongholds in every main dimension which contains a static portal to get to the boss dimension? I think the Kyther could benefit from some Aquatic Ruins. Maybe some occasionally swamp-like biomes in the Kyther (without the darker shading)would make it so it's not just all water.
I haven't read through every page, but are there any basic mobs you guys would like me to come up with a concept for? Here's my DA if you're interested: Here.
did you even read the part about static portals and dimension and boss dimensions? and the WD also has a jungle crust on top.
So you create a Dynamic Portal to take you to say, the Nether, somewhere in which contains a static portal to take you to the Boss Dimension?
(Complete Portaltard here so excuse me if I'm wrong again)
yup, basically like that, and the portal in the nether will be in a special room in a nther ruin.
Aw, that's kind of sucky. If he doesn't come back though, I suppose there's always the choice to reboot the idea with someone else at the helm, but only if he definitely won't come back.
What's the overworld boss? Some kind of dirt or stone thing?
