So I've explored the nether quite a bit in the pre-release and I don't really think that the new mobs are that annoying. So I've thought of (at least in my opinion) a better one. It's called (insert sinister voice here) The Screamer. It's a nether mob that is very rare and is immune to fire, lava and explosions.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: From the waist down shape wise it looks just like the player only a pinkish skin with bones visible and a deep purpleish liquid running down the body. But the moment you go above the waist it changes a lot. For starters it has 4 arms, 2 on each side, the lower ones pointing down at a 45 degree angle and the higher ones pointing up at a 45 degree angle, the arms are textured just like the legs. Then there's the head, its bigger then a players head and shaped like a stereotype alien head but, the top half of the skin and skull have been removed showing only the brain.
ACTION DESCRIPTION: This mob can not fly but it can climb up straight walls and hang from the ceiling, it also can not take fall damage so it can just drop out of nowhere and attack the player. If it sees the player, it will either let go and fall down (if its on a ceiling) and run at the player, climb up a wall and run at player or if it's just on the ground it will just run at the player very very fast (2.5 times normal player speed. When it runs it yells a terrifying scream, it arms start flailing, it's eyes go red, it's hand turn into fire, which it throws at the player and it's brain starts expanding and shrinking like a breathing lung. When it hits the player it damages 3.5 hearts it and knocks it backwards 5-10 blocks. It will keep coming at the player by climbing dropping or running until either the player kills it or the player dies.
It drops an item called screamerskin, which can be crafted into gloves, that if the player holds it can climb up vertical walls and when said player punches stuff, does 3.5 hearts of damage to whatever he/she hits. It also has 20 hearts of health.
Please give me some feedback.
EDIT: You could put up my nether eye/pearl crafting concept jellomob. I've given some more thought to the earth one but I've had no thoughts. That one's quite tricky :/
I'll quote myself for the final time, if this gets passed over AGAIN I will just let it die.
Please give me some feedback.

Alright, I'll add that.
I've been thinking about making the eye crafting be the pearl crafting instead, since it isn't that hard to get lapis.
We could always make the Eye be crafted with diamond or something.
Sorry if you decided on bosses for the dimensions yet, but I can't read through 74 pages:P I had an idea for the Kyther (?if that's what it's called) boss. Think, what is the most recognizable sea monster ever... The Kraken! You could have a battle with the Kraken!.
Also, I had an idea on how you talked about adding new "mechanics" from each dimension i.e. potions from the nethter. I think it would make sense if the Kyther (O.K. um calling it that) gave you a way to make something to breathe under water that you could then take back to the overworld. Something slightly "magical" based, not a scuba suit, because that just doesn't fit the theme of minecraft. Maybe you could craft some sort of helmets out of coral and animal parts (ew) and it triples your air meter? Then the bubbles could still be utilized
Oh and I had an idea on improvements to the nether. I always thought it would be fun, to go to the nether, and thry to survive there. I quickly found out it's near impossible because you can not get the most important resource in minecraft: WOOD. So once you run out of wood you've brought, that's it, no more tools. Then they added blazes. I always though blaze rods should have more uses then just potions stands and blaze powder. It's basically the same texture as sticks, just re colored. So what if you could make nether weapons using it! blaze rod and netherack stuff! you could have a flaming sword! And they could break more easily than stone (since netherack is one click to break). And the swords could maybe act as if the have the fire enchantment already on them. Thoughts?

We are planning to have every "Main Dimension" be survivable, so people that play survival mode can start out in any dimension they want, so yes the nether will be survivable.

Thanks for replying! What did you think of my Kraken idea? Also, is the first post where everything agreed upon is or is there another place for what is decided?
Concept added, and the mob seems a bit to extreme for minecraft, it's supposed to be for everyone after all.
Yay feedback! I feel important :biggrin.gif:
Okay then any Ideas on how to make it easier. Or maybe it could be a boss. Hmm I'll give it a bit more thought and resuggest it in the using the boos form.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Oh, sorry about that. OK. RELEASE THE KRRAKEN. A huge, many legged beast, resembling a squid but GIANT. Not a minecraft squid though, it would need to be segmented. but basically it would be rather large, maybe a little smaller than the enderdragon, and would obviously reside underwater. It would attack you by hitting you with it's tentacles. I don't know if you wanted what the boss fight would be like but I'll put a little.
After going through through the boss portal you find yourself in large murky dark room. after a small bit tile flooring, there is a huge pool of water, you can tell that the water extends outside of the room if thta makes sense. you would have to dive in, and either a. try to attack the kraken underwater or b. try to get it to chase you and surface so you can attack it like that.
Or totally disregard my idea on the battle itself, i just think the Kraken would be a great boss because of how iconic it is.
EDIT: Oh, and just tested, you CAN shoot arrows underwater. Would make for more fun boss fight
Improving the Nether now, are we? Well, lemme see if I can suggest anything...
Mobs:
- Little goblin things everywhere, running around. Sometimes forming in groups. They would normally be neutral, but the more curious/brave ones will try to attack. They can easily be scared off (Like cockroaches!) by attacking. Will attempt to raid chests (Chest items will pop out of the chest one at the time when the goblin is 'raiding').
Would be kinda funny to see they scurry away when you run at them XD
The item stealing would be kind of annoying though
- BIG Nether monsters. I imagine a sort of ogre-dragon hybrid twice the size of the player, that resides in enclosed areas, caverns, etc. They can charge through and smash blocks.
Meh, the idea of any mob being able to break blocks (without explosions of course ) seems kind of OP.
- Lava pups. Similar in appearance to incredibly short (5 feet long) Beluga whales, these creatures are half the size of the player and, like the name suggests, they enjoy wading and swimming in lava. They are dark and crusty in appearance from the dried lava on their skin. On occasion they will spew out lava out of their 'blowhole' (Which has a possibility of catching things on fire). They are a relatively passive mob, however, and can be harvested for a fire-resistant material.
We do need lava dwelling mobs, though a whale may not fit very well.
Blocks:
The Nether should have special blocks that aren't just used for building. It already does. Netherrack is a source of infinite combustion. Glowstone, well, glows.
- Some sort of cool (Like, temperature cool) block that defies heat and cools it down. If you're on fire, standing on this block would cool you off. Blocks that generate near lava shorelines turn that lava into stone. Lava pups can sometimes be found resting on this.
Interesting concept, might be better in a different dimension though.
- Mining Nether ores would also be possible. In place of stone, there would be a standard block that takes away light, acting as sort of an anti-torch. Therefore a fortress made out of this stone would definitely appear dark and foreboding. An equivalent of a torch could also be made from this stone.
The idea of an anti-glowstone block has been around for a while, I kinda like the idea myself. Though I think we could use something else to make torches.
- In this mine of darkstone, a Nether ore that acts as a magnet; any entities that come in its radius are pulled toward it. A redstone channel running through it causes it to reverse and repulse entities away (Or up...:biggrin.gif:). Or, you know, vice versa. Whichever one works.
A gravity block? might work, the coding might be tricky though (not 100% sure, it just seems like something that would complicated to code)
- Evil wood.
A lot of people are opposed to having trees in the nether, including myself. They just don't seem to fit no matter how you put them :mellow.gif:
- Arr, the Nether needs gems too! How abooout...a sort of ruby-like Nether gem? And ARR again, I don't know any uses for it (It's DEFINITELY not going to be for tools!).
We might have a valuable gem for each "Main dimension", In which case, The Nether would end up getting ruby.
Appearance: The screamer is 3 1/2 blocks high. From the waist down shape wise it looks just like the player only a pinkish skin with bones visible and a deep purpleish liquid running down the body.
How to reach: You reach this boss by activating a portal inside a room in a nether fortress. The portal room would look like this. http://imgur.com/J173v,UHFUN The portal itself would be made out of a medium rare nether material (not steak :tongue.gif:) and would look like this. http://imgur.com/J173v,UHFUN#1. To activate the portal you would have to place the portal block in the gaps, completing the portal.
Where is the boss found? How does the fight initiate? E.g. End Portal: The boss is found in it's own dimension, The Land of Screams. The fight is initiated the moment you enter the Land of Scream (LoS)
Arena: The Land of Screams (LoS)
What does the area you fight the boss in look like? What parts of the environment could you or the boss use to your advantages? E.g. The End. It would look similar to the nether only no lava lakes, lit entirely by lightstone, no mobs except the screamer, roughly spherical and about 60x60x60 in size.
Movement type: The screamer moves on the ground. But it can climb walls and hang from ceilings. When on the ground it walks on its legs, but when on the walls and roof it uses only its arms.
Method of attack: When the screamer sees the player, it will emit a terrifying scream, it's brain will start swelling, getting bigger and smaller like a breathing lung. It will then run at the player at a speed equivalent to 1.5 times sprinting speed. As it runs towards you, it's hands will catch fire and it will start to throw fireballs at you. These deal 2 hearts damage and have a 30% chance of setting the player on fire. When the screamer reaches you, it will start trying to punch you with all of it's arms. If one of these punches connects, the player will be dealt 3.5 hearts of damage and get knocked back 3-5 blocks.
Effects on landscape: The screamer has no major effects on the landscape, all it does is set the netherack on fire when it shoots it's fireballs.
Vulnerabilities/defeating
After the screamer has charged and swung at you, it will stumble in a random direction, while this is happening, it is at it's most vulnerable. If the player hits it's brain it will deal double damage and slow down it's charge to a little bit faster then walking speed.
Death/death animation
When the screamer dies, it will look up at the ceiling, start waving it's arms about and scream even louder. Then it's body parts will begin to shake, and finally the entire thing will explode into flames.
Drops
The screamer drops 3 items. 5-10 screamerskin which can be used to craft screamer gloves, which when held, allow the player to climb vertical walls, 2-4 screamerface, which can be crafted with a jack-o-lantern and placed as a scarecrow that repels all mobs except bosses for a 10x10 square around it. The final drop is a scream orb, which when placed in the crafting grid with 2 magma cores will create a nether core which is an element for a nether pearl. During this process, the scream orb is NOT consumed.
I'll put up another crafting concept involving the nether core tomorrow. Right now I can't be arsed. It's 2:50 am in aus and I'm goin to sleep soon, so I'll do a concept later.
Thoughts?

Jellomob, I tried to ask you earlier but I have compiled a large group of nether ideas which I think should be opened as a daughter thread. If I open it now it will allow people to look at it and make suggestions a lot more easily.
So, can I open the Nether daughter thread?
Patience my friend.
I will add the nether ideas to the OP for now, we can get an ample amount of feedback that way.
PM me the proposed thread, I will format and edit it to fit the OP.
This is a excellent idea, would make the "game" part of Mine Craft actually feel like a game, rather than a tacked on addition. I mean this gives a real reason to actually go to the other worlds.
I would offer to help, but i really cant do much to help. Once you start on the air dimension I will be back to help though. Although the pessimist in me is screaming that the best idea would be to get the Aether implemented as actual game content, seeing how it is already balanced, coded, and ready to implement. Not to mention that any Air Dimension will just wind up being compared to the Aether anyway, and it will be a hard thing to top.
But then i remember that you could always create something that cant be compared with the Aether. Keep going guys!

We aren't gonna make some that can't compare to the aether,
we're gonna make something so good, that the aether can't be compared to it! :wink.gif:
i don't know, i support ideas that are unique and creative, skylands and water dimension ideas have been suggested since i can remember, i even suggested a water dimension a while but it has since been deleted, probably because mine was dumb to begin with...

We already have a unique idea for the water dimension. I highly doubt someone has ever come up with a WD that has a crust surrounding a massive global ocean before.
Coming up with something unique for the Sky dimension shouldn't be that hard.
