"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
Improving the Nether now, are we? Well, lemme see if I can suggest anything...
Mobs:
- Little goblin things everywhere, running around. Sometimes forming in groups. They would normally be neutral, but the more curious/brave ones will try to attack. They can easily be scared off (Like cockroaches!) by attacking. Will attempt to raid chests (Chest items will pop out of the chest one at the time when the goblin is 'raiding').
- BIG Nether monsters. I imagine a sort of ogre-dragon hybrid twice the size of the player, that resides in enclosed areas, caverns, etc. They can charge through and smash blocks.
- Lava pups. Similar in appearance to incredibly short (5 feet long) Beluga whales, these creatures are half the size of the player and, like the name suggests, they enjoy wading and swimming in lava. They are dark and crusty in appearance from the dried lava on their skin. On occasion they will spew out lava out of their 'blowhole' (Which has a possibility of catching things on fire). They are a relatively passive mob, however, and can be harvested for a fire-resistant material.
Blocks:
The Nether should have special blocks that aren't just used for building. It already does. Netherrack is a source of infinite combustion. Glowstone, well, glows.
- Some sort of cool (Like, temperature cool) block that defies heat and cools it down. If you're on fire, standing on this block would cool you off. Blocks that generate near lava shorelines turn that lava into stone. Lava pups can sometimes be found resting on this.
- Mining Nether ores would also be possible. In place of stone, there would be a standard block that takes away light, acting as sort of an anti-torch. Therefore a fortress made out of this stone would definitely appear dark and foreboding. An equivalent of a torch could also be made from this stone.
- In this mine of darkstone, a Nether ore that acts as a magnet; any entities that come in its radius are pulled toward it. A redstone channel running through it causes it to reverse and repulse entities away (Or up...:biggrin.gif:). Or, you know, vice versa. Whichever one works.
- Evil wood.
- Arr, the Nether needs gems too! How abooout...a sort of ruby-like Nether gem? And ARR again, I don't know any uses for it (It's DEFINITELY not going to be for tools!).

I think i have an OV idea! :biggrin.gif:
Caves. thats all it is, an endless system of caves, with you spawning in a single, always occurring spot of a tree or 2, with a view of the top (which is 3 blocks higher then max height) to allow sunlight, always during the day the first time you get there. no food except for (if you make a farm) cake, or bread, and maybe zombie meat if your willing to. you would spawn around 60-70, just so your around the middle height. all OV ores spawn here, but no passive mobs, sugarcane, grass, tall grass, or anything else besides lava, water, stone, gravel, and ores (excluding the spawn point here).
quick idea :biggrin.gif:
Agreed... We should also not make it a "dream" dimension, the idea of entering a dimension trough sleep is crazy.
well... why not? you would need a special kind of bed, acting as a moveable portal, in with you can sleep in anytime. instead of the "fading to black screen" it would be like going through a portal, saying "Entering The _________"
just an idea, to make it a little more diverse.

They can easily be scared off (Like cockroaches!) by attacking. Will attempt to raid chests (Chest items will pop out of the chest one at the time when the goblin is 'raiding'). I`m kind of sceptical to this, but still their cockroach AI and them emptying chests would be cool.
- BIG Nether monsters. I imagine a sort of ogre-dragon hybrid twice the size of the player, that resides in enclosed areas, caverns, etc. They can charge through and smash blocks. Does these things fly? If yes: OP. if no: still OP. (Still remember how much destruction the ender dragon in the owerworld caused)
And with fire-resistant, do you that it is used for brewing like the magma cream or that it is used to make armor? The material would also be ridicolously hard to obtain.
This is actually one of my favourite block suggestions for quite a while, not sure about having it in the Nether though.
- Mining Nether ores would also be possible. In place of stone, there would be a standard block that takes away light, acting as sort of an anti-torch. Therefore a fortress made out of this stone would definitely appear dark and foreboding. An equivalent of a torch could also be made from this stone. So by using a block that takes away light, you make a torch that emits light? Still, cool idea.
Awesome, but how strong would the pull be? Would it have any other uses?
- Evil wood. Nooooooooo!!!
- Arr, the Nether needs gems too! How abooout...a sort of ruby-like Nether gem? And ARR again, I don't know any uses for it (It's DEFINITELY not going to be for tools!). Thank Notch (and Jeb) for that it`s not going to be used for tools. (never been a fan of more tiers of tools) Do you have any thoughts on how it could be used.
Do these things fly? If yes: OP. if no: still OP. (Still remember how much destruction the ender dragon in the owerworld caused) No, they don't have wings, and they don't cause massive amounts of block destruction. Remember, ogre-dragon, not dragon-dragon or ogre-ogre. One or two blocks of Netherrack on average could be destroyed by a punch or a swing of the tail.
Awesome, but how strong would the pull be? Would it have any other uses? Well, the push would be probably strong enough to begin repelling an entity 3 feet into the air. Possibly more depending on the density of the 'magnet' blocks. So take that push power and...it should be the same as pull power. Lol.
As for uses, a basic design such as that can have quite a number of creative uses. It could be used to create fancy boat 'canals' (And possibly even used for minecarts), or can be used as a mob trap.

quick idea :biggrin.gif:
What is the point of this dimension? The overworld (Which you seem to refer to as OV) already has cave systems. This is essentially nothing. Side dimensions should have several useful materials, and not just have only elements from an existing dimension, but should be original. For example, an ice/snow dimension would be different from existing snow biomes only if it had new mobs, plants, and a new underground, and maybe new mechanics.
I really don't like the idea of harpoons. I think throw-able spears will be fine.
Also, My imposter 'jelomob' posted a thread? Can I have a link please?
Throwable spears wouldn't make sense if they are intended for use underwater. Harpoons are used on whales and other sea creatures, whereas spears are only used on land, as far as I know.
Also, I used swords in the recipe because you will be able to make swords from other materials besides diamond/gold/wood/stone, when they are added. As I have said previously, each main dimension should have at least one new tool set. For the Nether material, you will be able to make axes. Is there any wood naturally occurring in the Nether? No. I didn't mean for the harpoons to be ONLY made out of overworld materials, all other toolset materials work too.

I believe the sky dimension should be reached by sleeping in a bed up near the height limit. (Dreaming in the clouds)
You would start fresh with no items in the Sky Dimension.
Your portal to the sky dimension would be your bed. Though, if you try sleeping in it, you will get the dreaded message: "You can only sleep at night".
Though, if you wait until nighttime (when the sky dimension's monsters awaken) you can sleep in your bed. When you wake up, it will be as if nothing ever happened. Your normal items are back, you're in the main world, and it's daytime.
Every time you go to the sky dimension, you start off the next morning after you slept in your bed to go back to the over world.
In other words; your inventory, armor, and potion effects are different depending on the dimension you are in.
Good idea and nice work with the image
maybe a little easier to notice though...
-Can create more powerful arrows (where apple is the ruby) Creates 12 Arrows
-Can create spears (where apple is the ruby) Same Damage as Iron Sword
You like?
Somewhere back in the thread someone talked about Basalt, maybe this could be the material for spears/harpoons?
Also should be sapphires (in the Kyther) and emeralds (in the Aether), but these crystals would lack many uses beyond a decorum item, and a few isolated recipes that are none the less necessary.I'm also going to try to add a post trying to condense the ore ideas we've had so far...

We need nether and skylands ores since sometimes I feel like I need a purpose to mining in the nether.
