Totally agree, shouldn't be that easy to find your way around the dimension, but mayyyybe they could last a little longer like....30 min?
And do you mind if I add your Mg ore idea to my thread?
Nah, that's a bit too long. After all, 10 min is more than a full night in minecraft.
But by all means, add away :3 Are you handling the subthread for the water dimension?

No.....its just an ore thread I made on my own "More Diverse Ores"
I'm also working on some ideas for the bosses of the over/nether/aether/aqueas? worlds only have the aether one left, drew pictures of them, but will need an artist to convert them.
and on another note... a crafting recipe for a Crystal Harvester, for the obvious, mining crystals...

so glow goo needs more uses... People have already suggested potions and eating it for a glow aura or increased night-vision, and, when reversed, blindness. Maybe you could craft it with 8 of a block and it would become glowing? For example, glowing dirt, glowing stone, glowing iron blocks... It would look identical to whatever block it is, but it would emit some light. Also, how about crafting 6 glow goop and a bucket into a goop bucket. It moves very slowly, and can flow 3-4 blocks horizontally. It gives off level 10 light, and is sticky to swim in, like lava. Not harmful, though. Can cool lava like water, but it will flow straight through water (recode water to treat it like a solid block if necessary, code goop to treat water like air, torches, fire, etc. Should be possible). When displacing water, it moves REALLY slow. 1 block down every 30 seconds. Also, gunpowder + goop instead of sand makes the blindness bomb. It evens blinds you! Blinded mobs keep doing whatever they were doing, so you can run away. Works like a COD flashbang on you, but lasts longer. The bomb would work by using the yet to be added 'blind' potion effect

Personally, I think titanium is a little too modern, and maybe even magnesium. This game has had a sort of magical twist so far, newly discovered modern metals are not exactly fitting into that concept in my opinion. You could remedy this problem simply by calling it something different.

Titanium is very common, it only has to be extracted from iron ore, using a very simple looking extractor with a simple recipe, you can extract titanium.

...You realize that there's no such thing as a 'modern metal', right? hell most of earth's magnesium is older than it's iron, since a great deal of earth's iron arrived in the form of meteors and such. Titanium too. These are basic elements - their existence is hard-coded into the .jar of the universe (LOL as if the universe was actually coded with java XD
...everyone knows it's in Perl). The only thing 'modern' about those metals is how we currently use them.

Well, stainless steel could be considered a modern metal because it was created as an alloy first in modern times, but technically you are right. What I meant is that you wouldn't ever find someone using a titanium pick back in the age of swords and bows. Although minecraft has no set age, titanium was only discovered in the late 18th century and was harnessed in pure metallic form at the beginning of the twentieth. If we are going to add titanium, might as well add guns and planes and all of those other things people suggest that are "too modern" or "ruin the feel of Minecraft" would have already been invented, in the case of flintlocks long before. Basically what I'm trying to say is that something like titanium would be better suited for Industrial Craft, as would some sort of extractor. It would be a lot simpler and more creative to use some imaginary metal, something unique that you could do whatever you want with. Not only does it work a little better with the current Minecraft, it allows for wiggle room with things like color (another grey/white metal would be a challenge to distinguish from the others and would just be boring) as well as properties. You could make it a black metal called Umbrum (coming from the latin shadow) and give it properties against a certain group of mobs, or use it in the creation of some seemingly magic device.
Notch did something similar with redstone. He could have added copper and electricity, but instead he chose to make a red ore that is dusty and has magical properties. It accomplished the same job, but it also allowed for a lot more wiggle room in the design process. With copper he would have had to add wires and circuitry which would advance the general period of Minecraft items a couple hundred years.
Again, all I'm trying to say is that adding titanium would not allow for nearly the creative possibilities of an imaginary metal, and would have the limitation of having a very recently harnessed metal in a game set in the time of swords and bows. At that point, might as well add uranium.
I'm back :biggrin.gif:!
the End could be filled with:
Obsidain pillars that are hollowed out instead wit ha spiral staircase.
obsdian fortresses wit h new block :Dormant Stone, basically white, cold stone.
a shadowy version f a slime.
shadows of mobs .

I see your point. We could just use iron for everything.

Yes, the game is set in a magical/medevil period, but who says we can't advance a little bit?
The game isn't about just survival in a time, its surviving and evolving to the world around you. Yes, you start out knocking down trees by hand, but eventually, you run out of things to do in such a simple stage. Evolution and adaptation are the rules of the game (ONLY rules, since even the laws of physics are gone :tongue.gif: ). Why shouldn't we be able to advance, let's say after..... beating a boss? New ores would be available, thus allowing us to move forward in "history".

Though that sounds good in text, there is a good chance it may not work well in-game.
We have already established that the first 4 bosses can be fought in any order. I don't think adding a linear aspect like unlocking new ores would suit that system well.

possibly it could unlock after beating any boss.
like: kill any boss once = advance one stage/time period/whatever
I was the first one to come up with Magnesium. It was in my post about a way to make a portal.
You find magnesium ore at the bottom of over-world ocean biomes (requiring the use of respiration and aqua affinity to harvest) then you can smelt it, craft blocks and make a portal.
I think he meant that he wanted to add my ideas and refinements to your idea - the exact MODEL for magnesium ore block generation (for example you just said the bottom of the ocean, I made specifications about the Y-level and surrounding block requirements), crafting for flares and flare properties, etc...

Hm, like Jellomob said it is better in text than it would be in execution. Before jumping to recently harnessed metals like titanium, we should add basic mechanical power, cannons, more advanced weaponry, more forms of transportation, among many others. It would be much simpler to add something mythical with no restrictions like adamant, or maybe something completely unique to Minecraft. You could do anything with it, it would be more interesting, more creative, more unique to Minecraft, and much easier to work with. In my opinion its just a better plan of action.
You did bring up an idea I had been thinking about, however. After boss fights, we could add more content to the overworld. For example, we could add a new metal with a unique use after each boss. The generation code would replace groups of blocks with an ID of 1 with blocks of the new metal ore. It shouldn't be too difficult. There could also be new mobs added for new challenges on the overworld. This is one of the reasons I think some resources should be necessary to get from the overworld. If this is the case then the player has to keep coming back to a world that gets increasingly more challenging. I think it would work out nicely.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.
I just thought of something. Our current height limit isn't going to do the Water dimension justice. I think we need to figure out a way to increase the height limit without increasing lag much.
My suggestion would be to use, just for the one dimension, a chunk configuration like the Cubic Chunks mod. But I think that mod causes lag too, but I think it would be better than what would happen if chunks were made to be really, really tall.

On the dynamic height mod, you can run a world twice as high without too much of a lag increase. The problem with cubic chunks for the water dimension is that you would be able to see the chunks of water appearing below you due to the openness of the dimension.

No, I disagree completely! I think that new metals are a must, but I am suggesting being more creative with them.
