I think you should be able to put Glow Goo into a potion to give you night vision. It'd be incredibly handy when exploring the deep ocean. You could even go OMNOMNOMNOM on it to give you a very temporary vision boost (15 seconds?), but it also poisons you for 5 seconds.
Interesting concept, may help with the dynamic light issue.

I liek dis.
But night vision is a bit too... vanilla, I guess. plus you could just get the same effect by increasing your brightness settings.
Perhaps when drunk, the potion could highlight all mobs within 40 blocks with a bright corona, light level 12 or so. Creepers would stand out against foresty background, skeletons midway up a ravine could be picked off before they can snipe you, etc...
And I like the idea of eating it and the poison... but again, vision boost is too easy to replicate for 0 effort... and I don't think making other mobs glow would work quite so well either - potions are magical, jellyfish goo isn't. Perhaps eating it normally would make YOU glow for 3 minutes, as bright as a torch, and poison you like a spider eye.
Run out of torches? Need to find your way out of the cave NOW? One last-ditch solution...
The problem with the player being a source of light/holding a source of light is that Minecraft isn't coded/scripted to allow moving light sources. The light level just isn't made to be that way, and coding it would take a long time.
If the player was simply able to see better in darkness (by raising the light level by like 7 or something), it'd be a lot easier to code.
True, but I do know that there is a dynamic lights mod.
Could work if implemented properly/expanded upon..
+1
there was even a handheld torchlight mod that was BEAUTIFULLY coded, and would have been perfect for this, but the creator stopped updating it after 1.3 :sad.gif:
hey, i was thinking up ideas for the water dimension (i like the name 'Abyss'), and came up with some things ithink are suggested a dozen of times, like: kraken, cthulhu, giant sea serpent, etc. but that's not what this post is about.
while i was thinking, i came up with a leviathan, but then i thought that would fit the end more, so maybe there should be a side dimension linked to both the WD and the end, a dimension full of water and some small island made of endstone and 'enddirt', and there would be a leviathan in there which you could fight, with almost exactly the same attributes as the dragon, but it does destroy enddirt/stone, but wouldn't do water.
i would think this is a good side-dimension, as it wouldn't drop anything very important, though it would drop something from what you would probably benefit.
i'm not sure if side dimensions should have bosses or not, but this seemms good to me.

An interesting concept, it could be a miniboss in The End. Or like you said a side dimension boss.
Basically if I am unable to turn your version of the end off or nether. Then I wont download it.
You don't want new content? This is open to suggestions, to keep the theme as much as possible. Nether trees are dead looking, very tall, and barely have any leaves. The end isn't getting anything stupid like endercows, instead, more mini-bosses and emder mobs.
I have an idea for a water dimension and end biome!
These biomes are the pollution in the water dimension, and the bowl in the end. These biomes allow aquatic endermobs!
The pollution: an area in the water dimension where the water is polluted, you take damage without a suit, and there are endermobs everywhere. The endermobs can't leave the pollution, they take damage from clean water.
The bowl: in the end, all water is polluted, some islands are bowls. Bowls are exactly what they sound like, giant bowls full of polluted water. Aquatic endermobs live in bowls.
I had a little idea for a water dimension boss. You need some sort of water dimension block to make into a portal sorta like a nether portal, but with 6 blocks at the back of it, and you have to ride a boat into it to warp. Or the portal could spawn naturally.
Anyways, you spawn in the middle of an ocean with a massive shark. And you're in your small boat. The catch is ,the shark can't take normal damage straight away. There are [insert number here] harpoon blocks, which only can be used once and cause a small amount of damage. Once all of the harpoon blocks have been used, you can damage the shark.
There could possibly also be smaller sharks that can be damaged normally.
When the shark dies, it floats to the top of the sea, and changes into a sandstone corpse, with a chest and exit portal inside the mouth. The chest contains some loot.
The mini sharks might drop shark teeth, which could make armour or something.
Anyone have any ideas that go with this?
Umm... the boss should be underwater, and not as genaric as a shark. And main bosses have to supply items used to acess the end. Also, boats are useless in the water dimension, you go in the water, not across it.
My idea was a bone dunkleosteus(formerly a megalodon, just because people wouldn't just recognize a dunkleosteus skeleton, but sharks are, like I said, to generic), it guards the world pearl, and you fight it in a giant clam. It also has bone minions, smaller extinct predators.
New block called an 'electrolyzer'.
Powered by coal or other combustibles (or eu/t from industrialcraft2 - not either or, but you can power with both. This way it can be powered in both vanilla and with the mod. Takes low power - 32 eu/t), if placed underwater it generates an air bubble block directly above it every 20 seconds that it's powered.
Also, magnesium flares work underwater IRL. Know why? Water is 1/3 oxygen, and isn't very hard to break down under extreme heat (like that produced by burning magnesium). However, igniting magnesium takes a LOT of heat, which is why I suggest that Mg Flares should be crafted, not with an Mg nugget and a stick, but with an Mg nugget and an already-made torch. ...kinda like a torch upgrade. Also they burn at light level 15, last for 10 minutes, and emit lava particles - magnesium is crazy stuff (I own a decent size ribbon of it IRL, and sometimes make mini-flares just like this out of matches). If you want permanent lighting in the water dimension, glowstone is still your best bet.
[edit]
Also for Mg ore - spawns only at level 40 or below, and only if there is a stone block on at least one adjacent side and water on top of it. Drops 3-7 Mg nuggets when mined - requires iron or better

how about glowstone lanterns?
or glowstone?
or jack o' lanterns?

One download makes no difference. An option to download each dimension separately may be added, but it will probably not be a priority. I say this because coding at least two completely new dimensions and tons of content, there will be more concerns then something as trivial as that I imagine.

Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.

Totally agree, shouldn't be that easy to find your way around the dimension, but mayyyybe they could last a little longer like....30 min?
And do you mind if I add your Mg ore idea to my thread?

I agree, some kind of portal linking system would need to be implemented. I will definitely keep this in mind when the modding starts. Thank you.

Apparently, the mods think the OP is "Too Long"
Lovely. Just lovely.
I guess I should at least thank him for removing all of those spam posts.

I agree
We need 3d modelers to help on Spirit Realm+!
