Why not have a world that is similar to the nether? Like, the nether's surface! And what about having an alien planet dimension? and a blank dimension similar to the end?
Another idea: (Saying we call the overland Minecraftia) Craftminia!
Remember that creeps and weirdos mod? Yeah, you probably do. Well this dimension adds a sort of..Odd aspect to the game :wink.gif: It is a very strange dimension, with odd mobs and two suns are always out 24/7, though dim they may be. An eclipse happens every 30-ish days, as this happens every NPC around you starts to act strange. They all become a creepy mob with a lot of arms, and deadly tallons. This mob can break through your house but with time, and this adds volume to the game meaning, building your house out of stone may be a more effective way of surviving. However, this dimension is something the nether and end are not. There should also be colored stone implemented into this dimension.
It is a dimension, that is actually useful for living in. It has resources, much like Minecraftia, larger trees, large mountains and more NPCs. Its animals actually drop an item called "strange meat" which can't always be relied on, while other animals can drop a variety of plants/seeds/meat. Because this dimension is so strange, you usually wanna cook the meat to be safe and rid it of disease. Also, the trees have very odd shaped fruits, that taken with care, can be purified in special water. The dimension has many of these "special water" ponds around, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The biomes are a little different in Craftminia:
-Grass land:same as overland except having a lot of open special water ponds, different mobs, etc.
-Snow area: Very cold, and with a veil that covers out the suns, this biome is the only completely dark biome in the dimension. It is recommended you be ready before entering this biome. :smile.gif:
-Jungle: The majority of this dimension, different colored trees and trees differ in size dramatically. New mobs, ETC. Many "NPC camps" will be in this area. NPCs can trade, and offer protection and a place to stay if you give them some
supplies.
-Town biome! As this biome is very rare, resembles much of our modern city except buildings are smaller. They do not have vehicles except for bikes and these areas usually aren't over populated. Roughly 100-120 over the 10000 block span of it. (that was a guess of length)..
What makes this dimension special, is the longer you stay in it, the more diamonds are spawned. Making players want to live in it, instead of just going in it to get a few netherack, for a change.
-Mobs spawn according to biome
-Fruits on trees
-Eclipse every 30 days
-New mobs..
-Strange, strange people/mobs/npcs
-Diamonds spawn rate go up every 5 days you are in dimension
-New biomes (I hate extreme hills biome)
-Random mountains :biggrin.gif:
-Storms are likely, and are dangerous with acid rain
Any thoughts? Please reply!
I know this isn't going to be added to the game, only half-assed dimensions are, its just an idea. I'd really enjoy this for a change though, I hate how the Nether, and The End, are very simple, lame dimensions. IMO, Mojang shouldn't have added the End so quickly, it was a really bad idea. Its extremely plain, and they tried to make up for it with a boss. Boohoo.
Anyways, if you enjoyed this idea click that + over yonder! And comment with some feedback to this wild dimension.
Edit: Trees are spaced out and very tall (most of the time) instead of having a clump of similar trees all in the same area.
Mining=Same as Minecraftia, with acid pockets that move like water and take half a heart each second your in it.
WOW! You really thought of something original!!! Great idea!!!! :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif:
Ah. In that case it is impossible, as I explained in my post. We can make the oceans as tall as the Overworld, but I guess we will need to cut out a bit for the jungles to grow, so it will probably end up being around 100 blocks deep without any height changes to Minecraft.

Prolly true, the height limit is 128, so if we leave 28 for the trees and crust, it'll be around that deep. That is unless notch JEB decides to up the height limit a bit.
251 was the old height limit if I recall. Imagine how much more stuff we could pet into minecraft if the height limit wasn't changed?

I remember hearing that you can mod the height limit easily since the 1.8 update, Idk if this is true or not.
just thought of some suit ideas. there are two types of diving suits, one that is really easy to make(without any foreign materials), and another that is much harder to make.
the first suit(which I'll be referring to as D.S.1):
-the materials to make it are easy to find(and on the surface)
-does not have infinite oxygen(the amount should be pretty long though, like a hour or two)
-oxygen tank can be refilled by coming into contact with air, bubbles, or any other air source
-gives underwater speed and mining buffs(you run and break stuff as if your on land)
the second suit(D.S.2):
-harder to obtain the materials(about as hard to find as lapis)
-said materials are found underwater(in underwater caves maybe?)
-infinite oxygen(no need to refill it)
-further improves the buffs
-looks cooler than D.S.1
both suits:
-can be upgraded to have armor and lights
-armored suits do degrade, but the suit stays
-let you survive underwater pressure(D.S.2 lets you go deeper though)
-have a depth meter(0= sea level, -x= underwater, etc.)
thoughts?
Too much oxygen, I'd rather have it more realistic: first is 10 minutes, second is 15.

firstly, I didn't know how deep the w.d was. also, I like having plenty of oxygen because I usually get easily distracted in minecraft, thus wandering somewhere random and far away.
I can't really explain it in words, but I think its better not to drown when your in the middle of something.

I brought up the idea of literally consuming bubbles like food for air.
I see my bubble idea is the sollution for this suit duration crap, one bubble = one minute :smile.gif: .
Yeah, I'll re-post the stuff I typed...
Oh and I added some extra comments, they are in red
First of all, let me say that I do not like the idea of having some kind of air compressor to refill the diving tanks, to modern IMO.
Instead we have an alternative brought up by a fellow user, it's a bit silly, but I think it might work. Bubbles. Yes bubbles, they are dropped by enemies in the WD when you kill them. However, instead of the bubbles going directly to your air meter, you collect them, and consume them like food for air. Each bubble refills one bubble on the default meter eh?
This would allow people to stay underwater for longer periods of time without a suit. However it would be quite inefficient to do so given the rate at which oxygen drops. I'm thinking it should be 1 bubble = two bubbles on the default meter.
While in a diving suit with a tank however, you have a completely separate diving meter, one that lasts longer based on what type of tank you have. We could have a class system with the suits, each piece adds to how long your meter is, much like armor, and it also acts like armor as well.
Each tier would have an armor durability rating as well as having an oxygen rating. When the suits armor is depleted, the suit is destroyed just like armor is, so you'll have to be careful as to how many hits you take from enemies.
I think the oxygen meter for the suit should remain after it is destroyed, until it is fully depleted or the player reaches the surface. This would give players time to retreat to the surface to make a new suit, and it would prevent unfair insta-drowning.
And Obviously, this temporary meter cannot be refilled with air while underwater.
Lets use the tiers we currently have as an example
leather helmet 1:00 leather tank 1:00
This means wearing a leather tank and a leather helmet gives you 2:00 of air
Gold helmet 5:00 gold tank 5:00
You would get a total of 10:00, and you could wear a leather helmet and a gold tank and you would get 6:00
iron 10:00
diamond 20:00
So the max time you could stay under water with the BEST equipment is 40:00 which is plenty of time.
These are EXAMPLES, we won't be having leather diving tanks obviously
To refill your diving suit's air you consume bubbles (say each bubble gives you 30 secs, it would take a lot of bubbles to refill a top tier tank, but less time to refill a lower tier tank, that being a tradeoff, staying under water longer vs fill time)
In addition to collecting bubbles, there are air vents in several places that refill 1:00 or so of air.
These air vents are located in various places, not just the sea floor.
I looked up various synonyms of water and ocean words, as well as in different languages. They might be good names for the water dimension. I picked out the more "exotic" sounding ones that weren't similar to the English spellings.
Oh and I added some extra comments, they are in red
Good ideas, and the bubbles are a minute with the suit, but just refill the meter without a suit, for a ten second refill, and because the scuba suits have teirs, they should be better in protection, enchantment, air(obviously, you said that), pressure resistance, durability(duh), harder to obtain(again, duh), and speed(flippers).
Pressure: basically, in the W.D., you take damage from depth, if you're underwater below a certain depth, you take damage, and your armor degrages.
Teir 1: down 32 blocks.
Teir 2: down 64 blocks.
Teir 3: down 96 blocks.
Teir 4: abyssal, pressure proof.
The 4th teir is a dungeon item called neptunite(neptunium is taken by an element on the periodic table XD), and is like diamond, make neptune armor with it(Why does the aether take what fits better in other dimensions?). Neptune armor is the best scuba suit, it has nearly infinite air. Beat the dimension, its biggest challenge fades, makes sense.
I say we leave 10 blocks above the surface of the W.D. for trees and crap, there is 96 blocks down to the abyss, and that leaves the bottom 22 for treanches.
Each main dimension should have a reward metal, which is as good as diamond and associated with their dimension's element.
The metals are terrainium, pyrite, neptunite, and aeronium.

Refill the whole meter? that would be a bit OP, 2 bubbles max. We don't want someone to get a bunch of bubbles and just keep using them to avoid making a suit. Though the pressure thing may help, but what about the overworld oceans?
If we are going to have "pressure" one, there has to be a gauge for it, and two, we would have to apply it to overworld oceans as well. What if someone is in a underwater ravine in the overworld, and then suddenly dies because he tried to walk through a few blocks of water? I assume that's how it would be coded, water below layer 32 would have so much pressure and water below layer 64 would have so much pressure etc.
It would be too complicated to code something like that. I think we should stick to how much durability and how long you can stay underwater.
I say we leave 10 blocks above the surface of the W.D. for trees and crap, there is 96 blocks down to the abyss, and that leaves the bottom 22 for treanches.
We need at least 28 for various reasons(the crust can't be 1 block thick, and the trees should be at least 10-15 blocks high for the jungle effect, jungles don't have short trees)
100 blocks should be enough to work with (hopefully, if not, we'll have to break the rules a bit an make some extra space, but ONLY as a last resort)
Each main dimension should have a reward metal, which is as good as diamond and associated with their dimension's element.

Pyrite is an actual material, we need a better name for it.
And if we do end up doing something like this, it will have to be done very carefully. It needs to fit the core feel of MC remember? If we end up making just another aether mod but with more dimensions, there is no way it will ever get added to Vanilla, which is our ultimate goal for this whole thread.

Pressure is only in the water dimension, because of water in overworld caves, and pyrite can be changed to pyronite or something... and pressure can't be too hard to code, it's actually completely depth related the way I said it, because I don't want it so hard to code.
Wow. The crust is supposed to have very little content. And I think of the crust being web like, with craters being over 2/3 of it, so light can get below. And I've explained earlier in the thread that sunlight can travel 6 blocks in water in the W.D. before weakening by 1 light level, this means the midnight zone is 90 blocks below the surface of the ocean.
The whole reason I never liked the crust idea is it takes too much space. We need room for treanches and a huge ocean that I want to be 96 blocks or deaper, which may not happen with the crust... the most I would like the crust to have is 12 block hight, with sea level at 116.

Hmm... 12 blocks leaves very little room for jungle-y content.
And by the way, when I said that the ocean part would have MOST of the content, I was thinking around 3/4 - 4/5 of the overall content. We have to give the crust some content, or else it will just look like a complete waste of space despite being one of the most important parts.
One alternative I came up with was to drop the crust idea completely, and have a bunch of tropical islands instead.
The islands would float on the ocean or something, and would be everywhere. Meh if it's to save space I guess it could work...

most of them sound like a attraction at sea world or a aquarium.
