Way too overpowered. Two hours of oxygen for coming in contact with a single bubble? Unlimited oxygen? Too much. First suit should do ten minutes or thirty minutes, second suit should do thirty minutes or an hour. You should have to craft a device out of some rare-ish material to refill the suit.

2.I didn't say that you would get a full tank immediately, it would be like one bubble= One unit out of around 40, also I said around one or two hours.
3.then you wouldn't be able to go all the way to the bottom of the sea(I,m thinking that its about 10-20 times deeper than the real oceans)besides, I don't like the possibility of drowning, and I want to explore the world without needing to take breaks just so I can live.
4.which one? And how rare do you mean? this kinda goes with #3.

4.which one? And how rare do you mean? this kinda goes with #3.
1. Because it makes it so that with a single stop of the weakest suit a hostile environment suddenly becomes no worse then the overworld for an hour or more. Think about it like making a suit that allows you to become immune to fire and lava for over an hour in the Nether. The natural hazards of the world are rendered moot.
2. Alright, understandable then but still don't like it. I think that while inside the suit you are limited by being only able to access the suits oxygen. A little more of a trade off that way.
3. I think you underestimate how long ten minutes is. Its enough time to sink down, explore a bit, and swim up. Its longer then a minecraft day, and thirty minutes is longer then two full day and night cycles. Also, when you say real I hope you mean Overworld oceans, because if not you are just dead wrong. Even with dynamic height set at the highest setting (which I might add, is unplayable), the real ocean is still 3 times deeper then void to void. Now, using my Nether comparison again, saying you don't want to worry about drowning is like saying you don't want to worry about burning in the Nether. It should be something you worry about until you have mastered the Kyther (or whatever). Eventually you will get there.
4. An air pump probably, and I was thinking gold. Here are some example recipes:
Pipe x8 (Material could be iron or gold or perhaps copper if implemented. It really doesn't matter)
In later crafting recipes Bone = Pipe
Pipes might have other uses like transporting liquids (possibly oil for some use like an oil furnace or something) or air in the case of the Kyther.
Pump x1
Not going to touch on how it might be used for liquids, but it could somehow be used to pump air into the tank.
Diving Helmet x1
Prevents wearer from gaining breath from exterior sources, but allows them to use the Air Tank.
Diving Suit (or Air Tank) x1 (Stolen from randalpik's "Increased Map Height" thread)
Provides air for the player.
Diving Weights x1
Can be worn by the player to make them sink much faster, but move slower.
Buoyant Boots x1
Can be worn by the player to make them rise much faster.
Not sure about diving pants. Maybe leather and gold, but you get the idea. Gold is harder to come by and this might give it another use. Better versions might be made out of a special Kyther metal instead of using it for tools.
Another idea I had was for initial exploration that the sea floor might be littered with vents in patches. While the blocks themselves would hurt to touch, bubbles pour out which would allow the player to gain air for some exploration unless they are wearing a diving suit.
I also thinking empty bottles should have a new use. When crafted in the Kyther, they are filled with water to start and cannot be emptied without refilling them, sort of how an empty bottle can't be emptied of air. Right clicking these bubbles might fill one with air, which would allow the player to "drink" it to refill their hearts. The ideas might be a little overpowered, though, as the player can carry a couple stacks and take them in front the Overworld.
On a different note, I think each dimension should introduce a new method of transportation for that dimension. For example, some sort of glider or parachute for the Aether or a lava boat for the Nether.

First of all, let me say that I do not like the idea of having some kind of air compressor to refill the diving tanks, to modern IMO.
Instead we have an alternative brought up by a fellow user, it's a bit silly, but I think it might work. Bubbles. Yes bubbles, they are dropped by enemies in the WD when you kill them. However, instead of the bubbles going directly to your air meter, you collect them, and consume them like food for air. Each bubble refills one bubble on the default meter eh?
While in a diving suit with a tank however, you have a completely separate diving meter, one that lasts longer based on what type of tank you have. We could have a class system with the suits, each piece adds to how long you meter is, much like armor, and it also acts like armor as well.
Lets use the tiers we currently have as an example
leather helmet 1:00 leather tank 1:00
This means wearing a leather tank and a leather helmet gives you 2:00 of air
Gold helmet 5:00 gold tank 5:00
You would get a total of 10:00, and you could wear a leather helmet and a gold tank and you would get 6:00
iron 10:00
diamond 20:00
So the max time you could stay under water with the BEST equipment is 40:00 which is plenty of time.
To refill your diving suit's air you consume bubbles (say each bubble gives you 30 secs, it would take a lot of bubbles to refill a top tier tank, but less time to refill a lower tier tank, that being a tradeoff, staying under water longer vs fill time)
In addition to collecting bubbles, there are air vents in several places that refill 1:00 or so of air.
OK on tho the rest of the post...
I like the "Diving Weights" and the "Buoyant Boots" idea, but what about the flippers?
What about having these as items you hold instead of wear, It will get tedious to go to the equipment screen and switch between the two. I'd rather not have this happen again.
Have them as items that you keep on your quick bar, you hold one when you want to go up, and the other when you want to go down.
Flippers however will be equipped, and they increase your general underwater movement speed.
And yes, we could have new ways of travel for each dimension, not sure about the gliders though...

Hm, I see what you mean about it being too modern. It wasn't modern in my head when I first thought of it :laugh.gif: Maybe adding some wood into the design would make it seem less like industrial craft.
Maybe that helps a little? Also, I was thinking that you could use bubbles to fill it up while in the Kyther, but then again I've always imagined it differently then how it was suggested here. In my idea of it being a giant cave filled with water with no surface, the bubbles would be a requirement because there would be no surface to retreat to. I hope I phrased that correctly, it is difficult to explain. If you can think of any ideas to make it seem less modern and more magical while still using gold, tell me.
I guess the tiers are an option, but I would really like to have gold be the primary diving equipment, because it is still useless.
Ah right, flippers.
About switching back and forth, I personally don't think it would be a problem because it would only be for getting down and up to the sea floor and the surface, but if you want we could do something like this:
and this
which would be like a weight you hold or a float you can hold.
And I don't see the problem with a glider akin to this: Da Vinci's Flying Machine. It fits Minecraft fairly well in my opinion and could be crafted something like this:
With feathers being a drop of some mob from the Skylands.

1. gold is a heavy material, why is in the recipe for something to make you float?
2. One of the things we've been discussing is the ability for the player to survive in evry dimension effectively. This would allow for server players to start out in any dimension they want.
Where would they get the gold for the suits? we don't want it to be too hard for people to dive underwater. They'd be like "why does this stuff require so much gold????"
I think we need to have a tier system so players can start out with a crappy suit, dive underwater, get materials for a better suit, dive deeper with the new suit etc.
Gold should have more uses, Just not in tier 1 diving suits, or the flippers, (Who would want gold flippers?) or the weights and floater thingies.
Still not sure about the compressor...It just doesn't seem to fit.
As for the flying machine, might be a bit OP for travel in the overworld, but I could be wrong.
Alright, do whatever you want. There is no point trying to convince someone when you have two opposite view points. Anyway, a leather tank isn't much more sensible than gold flippers in the first place.
Also, its a glider, not a plane. It can't take off of the ground, only swoop from heights.

I was using the leather tank as an example of how tiering might work, we aren't going to have leather tanks.
True, I guess gliders could work.
And please don't take this personally, I'm just thinking a few steps ahead of where we are at the moment. I just feel players might find it annoying to gather so much gold for their suits and such.
We could have gold be included in higher tiered suits, just not the tier 1 suits.
Another idea: (Saying we call the overland Minecraftia) Craftminia!
Remember that creeps and weirdos mod? Yeah, you probably do. Well this dimension adds a sort of..Odd aspect to the game :wink.gif: It is a very strange dimension, with odd mobs and two suns are always out 24/7, though dim they may be. An eclipse happens every 30-ish days, as this happens every NPC around you starts to act strange. They all become a creepy mob with a lot of arms, and deadly tallons. This mob can break through your house but with time, and this adds volume to the game meaning, building your house out of stone may be a more effective way of surviving. However, this dimension is something the nether and end are not. There should also be colored stone implemented into this dimension.
It is a dimension, that is actually useful for living in. It has resources, much like Minecraftia, larger trees, large mountains and more NPCs. Its animals actually drop an item called "strange meat" which can't always be relied on, while other animals can drop a variety of plants/seeds/meat. Because this dimension is so strange, you usually wanna cook the meat to be safe and rid it of disease. Also, the trees have very odd shaped fruits, that taken with care, can be purified in special water. The dimension has many of these "special water" ponds around, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
The biomes are a little different in Craftminia:
-Grass land:same as overland except having a lot of open special water ponds, different mobs, etc.
-Snow area: Very cold, and with a veil that covers out the suns, this biome is the only completely dark biome in the dimension. It is recommended you be ready before entering this biome. :smile.gif:
-Jungle: The majority of this dimension, different colored trees and trees differ in size dramatically. New mobs, ETC. Many "NPC camps" will be in this area. NPCs can trade, and offer protection and a place to stay if you give them some
supplies.
-Town biome! As this biome is very rare, resembles much of our modern city except buildings are smaller. They do not have vehicles except for bikes and these areas usually aren't over populated. Roughly 100-120 over the 10000 block span of it. (that was a guess of length)..
What makes this dimension special, is the longer you stay in it, the more diamonds are spawned. Making players want to live in it, instead of just going in it to get a few netherack, for a change.
-Mobs spawn according to biome
-Fruits on trees
-Eclipse every 30 days
-New mobs..
-Strange, strange people/mobs/npcs
-Diamonds spawn rate go up every 5 days you are in dimension
-New biomes (I hate extreme hills biome)
-Random mountains :biggrin.gif:
-Storms are likely, and are dangerous with acid rain
Any thoughts? Please reply!
I know this isn't going to be added to the game, only half-assed dimensions are, its just an idea. I'd really enjoy this for a change though, I hate how the Nether, and The End, are very simple, lame dimensions. IMO, Mojang shouldn't have added the End so quickly, it was a really bad idea. Its extremely plain, and they tried to make up for it with a boss. Boohoo.
Anyways, if you enjoyed this idea click that + over yonder! And comment with some feedback to this wild dimension.
Edit: Trees are spaced out and very tall (most of the time) instead of having a clump of similar trees all in the same area.
Mining=Same as Minecraftia, with acid pockets that move like water and take half a heart each second your in it.
I'e been thinking about that for a while, having NPC villages in all the dimensions could work.
Pigmen(normal pigmen) in the nether
Merpeople in the WD
Bird people in the skylands? Not too sure about this one.
Hmm... NPC villagers don't seem too bad of an idea for dimensions. Mojang should implement a use for Overworld villagers first (like Combat NPCs and NPCFs) before we illustrate our thoughts of NPCs in different dimensions.

The AI guy is supposedly working on a base AI system for mobs at the moment, Soon we'll have better villager AI.
I suggest you suggest your Ideas to Jeb now while they are still in the planning phase for the AI
How deep is the w.d. ocean going to be? I personally hope its at least 10 times deeper than oceans on earth.(that's what I meant, HollowKnight)
Ah. In that case it is impossible, as I explained in my post. We can make the oceans as tall as the Overworld, but I guess we will need to cut out a bit for the jungles to grow, so it will probably end up being around 100 blocks deep without any height changes to Minecraft.

As deep as we can make them I guess.
Ah. In that case it is impossible, as I explained in my post. We can make the oceans as tall as the Overworld, but I guess we will need to cut out a bit for the jungles to grow, so it will probably end up being around 100 blocks deep without any height changes to Minecraft.
