Most Nether fauna lies in huge beds of soul sand. Among the Magmabloom trees and rare natural Netherwart (only in place so Nether fortresses can be turned off) are various kinds of Netherbulbs.
Each one lies in soul sand and spreads using the mushroom algorithm with each bulb being dropped when its soul sand block is tilled or dug up with a spade (they can be replanted). Like mushrooms however there is a much better way of growing them.
Each bulb appears as a tiny dark red stem which spawns a flower when mature. This flower can be sheared to drop two to three seeds.
From here you can sow the seeds on soul sand tilled and irrigated with lava. From this point they mature till they revert their block back to soul sand having regrown their flower.
There are five types of bulbs, commonest to rarest:
Red flowered bulbs explode like landmines and are the most common. Their explosion only removes the bulbs block but inflict 5 hearts damage. They are the only one that can be replanted on soil, gravel and sand allowing landmines. They can also be right clicked and thrown.
Blue flowered bulbs have a unique use. When looking at a cauldron right clicking squeezes them allowing you to fill the Cauldron with water, it takes three to fill one cauldron.
Yellow flowered bulbs act as a reliable food source, each one healing two hunger points.
White bulbs can be crafted into white powder which can be used as a sand substitute in the nether to make glass items.
Black flowers are the rarest with 9 other types for 1 black. These can be brewed into a potion of death. Simple as no question. When drunk or throne the mob gets a powerful poisoning (which means some creatures including the enderdragon are not affected) which will kill it. Milk has no effect, Healing potions only prolong your life. I'm sorry this is the end.
WOAH buddy, slow down a bit.
First we need to discuss the idea of dimensional biomes a bit.
People have suggested nether biomes before, but let's take it to a whole new level, All dimensions should have biomes!
This would definitely help in making exploring dimensions worth it.
In my opinion, I think that each main dimension should have the resources to survive/live there permanently(basically being able to staying in one world without the need to go back to the over world for tool,food,etc.). some basics are:
1.food(pigs for example)
2.wood
3.water(or something similar)
4.tool tiers(equivalents to the normal ones)
5.minerals(iron,etc)
6.crops(wheat,etc)
7.other materials for crafting(string,flint,etc)
8.each dimension should have its own resources specific to it(so no diamonds in the nether, but there would be something like them)
This could make faction servers interesting(each faction gets a entire world)
Also the water dimension should have breathable water(so the entire place can be explored without drowning).

1. I see what you mean, this would indeed make servers more interesting. You could even set the starting dimension for a server as well. A water dimension only server would be pretty intense.
2. Implementing some sort of food mob won't be that hard, I could see this happening.
3. Here's where the trouble starts, how are we going to have wood(or trees for that matter) in the nether or End? The water dimension Idea I had (were a thin layer of crust surrounds the world) would be Supple for jungle trees, the sky dimension could easily have trees as well. We just need to find a way to make wood fit in those dimensions...
4. someone suggested using lava to irrigate crops in the nether, so we won't have to worry about this.
5. Not sure about this, but it does make more sense than having one new tool set per dimension I guess.
6. Not sure about adding Iron to the nether, maybe in an indirect way? Instead of having just plain iron ore, like how zombie pigman drop gold nuggets. Maybe some kind of metal enemy?
7. Not a problem, it would be easy to implement this

3. what I meant was something used for wood(sticks, crafting tables, chests, etc.)I think trees could work in the nether though if they look like there dead
4.you can't use lava for potions, "safety nets", or extinguishing fire/lava
6. I meant a kind of ore in a dimension(like the aether mod)
7. also the crops are dimension specific(like you can't grow wheat on soul sand in the nether)
10.What I'm saying is that you can be able to go to any dimension without anything and be able to do everything there, so there would be no need for diving equipment.
the idea I had for the w.d. doesn't have any landmasses in it, everything's underwater
edit:I'm not really considering the end for any of my statements, since its basically just for fighting the enderdragon. also savannah man, I meant passive food mobs(not pigmen).

3. how would these trees be renewable?
4. True, but there is no water in the nether, and I don't think there will ever be any. Maybe a water substitute?
6. we don't necessarily have to have Iron ore in all the dimensions, having an enemy drop an iron ingot or two would be supple. Plus the idea of a metal (maybe liquid metal?) enemy in the nether sounds pretty cool.
7. herp, forgot to say that, but yes, there will be dimension specific crops. Seaweed for the WD maybe?
10. >Start on land in the water dimension
>craft helmet
>dive into endless ocean below the thin layer of crust.
Imagine this, but have several of these openings littered across an infinitely expanding jungle landscape
Then everything underneath the jungle is a vast under water ocean, filled with coral reefs, cave systems, ancient temples, and a whole lot more.

3. I didn't really think about that
4/7.exactly
6.I mean there are ores specific to each dimension, I was just using iron as a example
10.I don't really like the idea of having to wear something to stay under water, wouldn't the crust make the ocean pitch black? the crust should be made of glowstone or something.
would the suit give you infinite oxygen? also the main problem I have with it is that it would take up your armor space, if those two problems are fixed and there not too hard to make I would be okay with them.
the w.d. trees should be able to grow underwater(so you don't have to go on land to get wood).
there should be the usual animals in the deep water(angler fish, gulper eels, goblin sharks, etc) :smile.gif:

1. Yep, that's the general idea.
2. Armored diving suits
3. Indeed they will grow underwater, though there will also be a jungle like environment on the surface world of the WD .
And the main reason why there should be a surface in the WD , is because dropping strait Into water is kind of cheap, and having land allows you to be able to actually craft a diving helmet INside the dimension.
Also, having just a large ocean for the WD seems kind of lame. People will be all like "why go to this water dimension if it's bascally just an oversized ocean biome?"
They jungle, and the openings in the crust give the dimension some life to it IMO.
the reason i don't want the air demsension to be called the Aether or the water demension to by called the kyther is that to me they all sound too simmular, all "ther"s. That is why i think the air dimension should be called the Skylands and the water demension be called the Abyss.
I thought that when you make a water demension portle the portle should make a boat maybe instead of appearin on an island. Like a 4X6 boat made out of wodd maybe.

you can always just call them whatever you want, nobody's stopping you.

I agree, that's why we're not gonna call them that!
The skylands will be the sky lands.
But The Abyss sounds more like a biome that would be in the water dimension IMO.
Oh yah, all the dimensions are gonna have biomes now! :smile.gif:
To Give some variety to dem dimensions. We don't want a repeat nether after all. :wink.gif:

9. True
10. Problem Solved

edit:maybe you can use seaweed for sushi?
6. Oh, ok that makes sense. But we need iron for buckets and such
10. well, It would be kinda weird not to have a diving suit.
11. you forget that the openings in the crust are everywhere, and they let in light
And deep oceans are dark near the bottom anyway. Though I believe I have that problem covered
you can use the iron equivalent for buckets.

They jungle, and the openings in the crust give the dimension some life to it IMO.
With that in mind it should be easily broken.
a bonus for the suit should be that you mine at normal speed.
Ah ha, now we're getting somewhere!
Now That's what I call brainstorming!
A jungle on top of a massive ocean...that makes me wish that the w.d. was implemented.
I know right! It's a pretty cool idea isn't it? :smile.gif:
This coming from a jellyfish.
Anyways, the jungle should have some mobs too, preferably plant based.
Venus fly trap mob? Venus fly trap mob.
Yes! I did already have a idea for a mob but its kind of silly/ridiculous. but that works.
I thought that when you make a water demension portle the portle should make a boat maybe instead of appearin on an island. Like a 4X6 boat made out of wodd maybe.
