Hey Minecraft Developers, I hope you guys find this. I've been thinking for like a month that it would be cool to have seasons in Minecraft. That would make it soooo much more enjoyable, and my friends agreed with me. I'm not trying to push you. I know this would be a hard mod, especially with the way I want it done(I will add on how I want it done later. For now, just think about it I guess?) If you think you might need a little bit of help, you can ask lahwran. He's pretty good at modding, and then you could just add the mod to Minecraft it's self. (Hehehe, that's how you develop. Who knew? I did.)
If you could add seasons to minecraft, I might actually buy like 50 more accounts. (That's an exaggeration. XD)
Okay, here's the rest of the information on the idea:
Spring:
During the spring, current existing events such as rain storms would occur more often. There would also be new events like growing and becoming slippery.
Rain Storms:
Rain storms would happen a lot more often than they usually do.
During rain storms, there would be a chance that still water would spawn in open holes. If water spawns on an open plain, it would then despawn after the storm is over. The chance of water spawning would decrease as the hole gets wider and wider.
The basic idea of the spawning water is part of the Finite Water mod while it's raining.
Slippery:
Blocks getting slippery would depend on the block its self. For example: Dirt, clay, sand, and grass would all become somewhat sticky, any block that has to be mined by a pick would become slippery (that includes glass and netherrack,) gravel would stay the same, wooden tools would become unusable, wooden blocks would become slippery, and lava would steam a lot more, and maybe turn to obsidian in places.
Growing:
During the Spring, there would be new trees, flowers, sugar canes, and mushrooms that would grow in their respective locations.
Trees would grow in/on valleys ,mountains, and other places they can grow without ruining the players buildings. If the location the randomizer chose to plant the tree had a block within 2 horizontally from the leaves, the tree will not grow.
Flowers would grow in the sun on plains. If there is no sun, and it is not on a plain, the flower will not grow. Plains will be determined by if there is a relatively flat and large area with no trees and full sun.
Sugar Cane would grow next to trees by water. If there are no trees withing 10 (or so) blocks of the randomly chosen location that the player has discovered, the Sugar Cane wouldn't grow.
Mushrooms would grow under existing trees, or in caves. The mushrooms will only grow in light levels that they will not break in.
There may be more things that I didn't think of.
Leaves Growing:
This is a new idea that I came up with. Leaves would look somewhat realistic, and they would kind of clump up. The leaves would fall off in the fall, and grow in spring.
Leaves would also change colors as seasons change, making it have a more realistic feel to it.
Snow Melting:
The snow from the Winter season would melt into water, and run off (not a water source, it'd be like finite water, again finite liquid)
Summer:
The summer is basically when everything finishes growing. Also, the least happens here.
Leaf Decay:
(This seemed like an appropriate place to put it.) Leaves that had grown in the spring, would be at maximum size, and some would begin to decay and fall off later in the season.
Leaves would be constantly decaying, but not very visibly.
Fall:
The fall is the season when all of the leaves fall off the trees, and leaves them barren. It would get cold, and colors would change accordingly.
Everything would begin to get this orange-blue tint to it, and things would seem more... melancholy.
Occasionally, there would be wildfires that would destroy forests and the like. This is season with the least action.
Wild Fires:
A wild fire would just be when fire randomly spawns in forests. (I'm not sure about this one)
Leaves Falling:
Leaves that had decayed to a certain point would fall off the tree, and pile on the ground. For every leaf that touches a block and stays there, a new block would be spawned. The block would have the texture of how ever many leaves were on it, plus that new one. Eventually, if enough leaves piled on one block, it would become a full block with the texture of many leaves on it. The leaves would then begin to stack up on the block above it. (That's not the hardest part to come my friends)
Tinting:
This is probably one of the easiest parts of the... whatever you call this. Mod? Anyway. Tinting, is the world would get somewhat of a orange and blue tint to it, and maybe a little bit of green.
Winter:
The winter will have the most new stuff in it. There will be snow storms, drifting (I'll explain in a moment), freezing, cracking, and more.
Snow Storms:
In a snow storm, it would snow. But, there would more to it. There would be more than just ordinary snow storms, there would also be blizzards, where it would be harder to see, as well as white-outs, where you wouldn't be able to see at all.
Drifting:
During Snow Storms (above), the snow would pile up more than just a part of a block. There would be amounts like 1/8, 1/7, etc. When it piles, it would pile highest up against walls, and in little ditches, pits, etc. Large caves, caverns, and pits would have some snow at the bottom.
Freezing:
Freezing would freeze water into ice, but not just the source. All of the water that is on the top, even the water beneath trees, would freeze. Not only that, but there would be sloped ice, just like the water flow.
More than just ice would freeze though. During storms especially, there would be a chance that mobs, including/not including the player, would freeze. (←That would be random most likely) The mob would then be incapable of moving. If the mob were to be hurt, it would unfreeze, as if a layer of ice had developed around it, and then broken.
Not only mobs and water could freeze, there's more! (Yeah, this is getting boring. XD) During all storms, blocks would take a bit longer to mine. When it's not stormy though, only some blocks would be tougher to mine, and they wouldn't be much tougher.
Cracking:
Cracking would be where blocks would get so cold, that they would just break all by themselves. Of course these blocks would only be ones on the surface, because that's where it would be the coldest. (This might be hard: A measurement of 'temperature' that would define when what block would break.)
Snow Hardness:
Yes. Snow would have harndess (Also a measurement of 'temperature,' but that would define how hard it was) Soft snow would make it so when you jumped from a high place, the damage would be lessened a little bit. (like ½ a heart less for each soft snow block) When the snow is hard, you would get hurt more than normal (like 2 hearts more for a full hard snow block, but 1 whole hard block would be rare. Also mining times would be longer/shorter depending on hardness of snow)
Please tell me if you need any help understanding a part of it.
come to think about it they already tryed said snow
it failed big time because everyone got mad when everything got covered in snow
even lake would freeze up in multiplayer.
I've been thinking about this for a while too. Another thing that I've thought about is if seasons were added in to Minecraft(not a mod but in the actuall game), you could have a button that turns seasons on and off. Also the seasons could last for about 90 days(3 months),but it would be Minecraft days so it would go alot quicker. Also in the Spring you could have alot more thunderstorms and in the Summer you would have alot less thuderstorms and more rainstorms. In the fall there could be wind whistling sounds that randomly play.

I thought I added the thing about rain/thunderstorms. You might have overlooked it, I might have accidentally removed it, or I might have not even added it, but what ever it was, I think it's a good idea.
