So, just now I was hanging out in some server (I forget which one), trying to re-create something cool I had seen in a different server: A church. If done right, these things can be pretty impressive and cool-looking. I spent a good hour and a half on this thing, trying to get it just right, making it nice and pretty. As soon as I had laid the very last brick on top of the bell tower, an admin saw me and started spewing out the most horrible names you can think of (and not regular f-bombs here- he was actually fairly creative). All directed at me, for my church. He proceeded to inform me he's an atheist, once the spew was finished, and that there was no way in hell (ironic, no?) there would be a church on his server. I asked him if I could at least take pictures of it, and I got banned.
Now, that's irritating enough, but did I really have to listen to that filth first? I say no. Notch, could you please implement some kind of chat filter (whether Notch-regulated or admin-created) so we, the players, don't have to hear that?
Fair enough request. Do you mean the chat will filter only for you per your setting, or for everyone on the server? I wholly agree with the former; not so much the latter.
This is the internet. You have to realize that most people aren't 10 and are mature enough to handle such words. Although, banning you for that is just stupid.

I'm sorry, are you saying I'm immature for not wanting to listen to myself or others be cursed at? While I appreciate your support in that last sentence, I have to point out this simple Rule of Life:
Cursing != Mature
Not Cursing != Immature
I don't know where you learned that little bit of advice (that in order to be considered adult you must curse and embrace all cursing), but I urge you to forget it. It won't serve you in the long run.
I swear a bit. Usually to emphasise things, or if someone really annoys me I might give the old curse. I say it should be client based though since I have no problem listening to swearing but I guess other people might and they shouldn't have to listen to it. Should be disabled by default to prevent people from assuming it's forced on and therefore using bypass words.
Stupid server though. Lets raid it and build lots of churches.
I wouldn't reccomend a filter. Maplestory is a good example of the cons of filters.
As you may guess, I dislike any form of censorship whatsoever. This is the world. Get used to it.
Though you've got to keep in mind that the occasional 10 year old might come in here and witness this swearing, and then you're bound for legal trouble if the parents find out. I would recommend more of a warning clause for multiplayer instead of a filter, though, like those things that say, " is not responsible for any content in multiplayer mode, etc, etc." I do agree with your post, but the internet is an open hole anyone can fall into.
HA! Most of the people who do swear (internet or not) ARE 10 year olds (or anybody around that age group).
And you know how annoying 10 year olds are. They'll always shift the blame to other things, which is why a clause is always good so those parents who do see us curse and go, "These people ruined my child's innocence!" can't sue Notch out of the approximate $14,000 he's earned just because of that -one- annoying 10 year old. You'd be amazed what people sue for these days. No seriously, google it and have a good laugh. Then again, I always try to be on the cautious side of things to avoid trouble, but still, that clause is useful.
No Rules... except for things the op disagrees with. Very nice. If you're going to say No Rules, expect everything from churches, to swastikas, to giant penises, to single blocks lines spanning the entire map. I've heard so many tales of idiots being ops on servers, it's just amazing.

Making a big deal about it makes you immature. Just ignore it.

Really, don't say "Just ignore it", you sound like more of an ass because everyone complains about something, even you, don't "Just ignore it", just be mature and smart about it.
I wonder how this jackass became an admin.
and people wonder why are there griefers... with mods like that even i think is tempting to go there and destroy everthing.
I'm also an atheist, but i respect all religions like i want they to respect my "atheism"

Relic of a bygone age.
Quality of output = Skill * Effort
Found the name. No Rules Build [24/7].
Lol.
Anyway, I agree, but make it optional.

And spam unban requests because we didn't grief.
