I have explored caves, mine shafts, fortress's and even epic ravins. There is only one issue I have with them. They are all underground. I understand that this is "Minecraft" and that it involves mining. But the surface is just as important as the caverns. I would like some structures other than villages to explore. For example, ancient ruins! And not the ones created by players, but naturally generated.
Just imagine: -A nearly destroyed castle on top of a mountain. With random rooms, windows and no torches.
-Pyramids would be found in the desert. Sandstone based dungeons would be underneath.
-Large statues used to worship a particular mob. They would be standing, tipped over or buried neck deep.
-Overgrown paths and bridges.
-Great temples with altars inside. Priest mobs would probably wander around temples.
-A broken fountain in the middle of a field or forest.
-Burnt out lighthouse.
-Watchtowers with busted ladders or stairs.
-Or just pillars and busted walls scattered in a large area.
They all would be available to explore and/or rebuild.
This is my suggestion.
