With 6 pages of suggestions I'm SURE I'm regurgitating some of the same general ideas, but I have a few original thoughts : P
First off, I think it would be sweet if a sort of money system was developed. I mean, it doesn't even have to be you doing jobs, you could just get 1 coin or whatever for every step that you take. I personally just love the idea of being able to upgrade yourself in some way. Whether it be a coin system or an experience system, I think it would be great if it had it. Perhaps the more you walked, the faster you can walk, or the more you build things the more options you have to build different blocks or build different shaped things easily. Maybe more experienced players could have access to a 2 x 2 block piece, or a line tool.
Secondly, vehicles. Please for the love of god, vehicles. It's such a hassle for any non administrator to get around. Doesn't have to be anything fancy, heck, a bike will do. Just something. This could also tie in with the money/experience system I mentioned a while back.
Ramp pieces. Wouldn't be that hard, and they could also tie in with the vehicles because they could go off ramps, make jumps, etc. The way I was thinking to implement this is: You press R to go into 'ramp block mode'. Once you press R the first time, it selects right side up ramp blocks, meaning it would look like this:
(shut up, I know the quality sucks, all I have is MS paint right now xD)
Then, if you press R again, the ramp would go upside down, so it would be standing on the point. You could use this to make half in half blocks also, like half sponge, half dirt; half glass, half hedge, etc etc. You could also use the Q and R keys to rotate it north, south, east, and west. I think this would be a great feature.
EDIT: Shortly after writing this portion I realized that the R key was already preoccupied (lol facepalm). As opposed to R, lets say... G? : P
A ladder piece, please. I think we're all sick of making massive one pixel wide towers and bulky staircases to get up higher : P
I don't know how this would work out in the long run, but moving blocks would be sweet. The biggest problem I see with this is that if you get squished between two blocks, what would happen? I suppose you could be sent to the spawn point.. I can also see this causing a lot of glitches, but I think the pros would out weight the cons.
For the cloth, you should be able to select the brightness. I was originally going to suggest more colors, but it's good to be able to distinguish between, for example, a brown cloth block, and dirt. That's no good. But if you just make an option to customize brightness, you could have a lot more room to make cool pixel art and stuff, but yet you could still distinguish.
Make the skinning double the resolution that it is. It's really hard to work with and be creative with the small space there is. I mean, 8 x 8 pixels for the face? That's... kind of dumb.
Prop protection. This could be a feature used by administrators, and could end up being an incredible way to prevent griefing. The only real problem with this is that there is no.. easy way to determine what's protected and what isn't. The way I'm thinking is having it so the administrators can set up a cube or 'bubble' containing all the blocks that need protection. Then, everything in that blob cannot be deleted. If someone can think of a better way to do this, please share, because I have no idea xD
AS I SAID, I'm aware I'm probably repeating things that have already been said. If that is the case, my apologies in advance. Thanks for reading.
I agree with the skins idea. It's hard to expect people to buy the game for skins that are olny 8 pixels by 8.
I'd say at least 16 by 16 for the face. Even if that makes it look odd agenst the rest of the game.
I would like a ramp block (like, a LOT), if only so we wouldn't have to hop up stairs (couldn't care less about making sweet jumps, et al). My suggestion (as someone who knows nothing about machine code) would be to just set it to stop you if you try to walk at it from any other angle than that with the 'down' end of the ramp.
That was actually my first thought after five minutes of playing this game.
Though I do understand the purity in the blocky aesthetic. So... I trust Notch, in his infinite l33tness, to make the best decision.
