The end is in the void. So make it extremely affected by void fog!
There's a "see in the dark" potion in the code. This could make the end possible by reducing the void fog, but not eliminating it. It would also add an interesting time-limit to being in the end. If you run out of see-in-the-dark potion, you have to deal with full void affects which may be almost impossible.
Other end suggestions:
There are the obvious things that probably will be done; make the dragon breathe fire and make the health crystals not destroyable by arrows.
The end is this awesome floating island, there's so much potential that's not used here; Make the Obsidian pillars on mini-islands away from the main island.
That way, getting to an obsidian pillar is difficult, and getting knocked off an obsidian pillar is an actual threat.
Mojang may want to consider splitting the main end island into smaller islands connected by narrow land-bridges.
This will make the END dragon scary as hell. Especially when you cant see it that well.
There may be some difficulty working out the dragon destroying the bridges (that may make it too difficult) but this would be a great additional challenge to the end.
Last, but not least, endermen teleport. It's a main characteristic of them...
Why doesn't the Enderdragon teleport while fighting like the endermen do?
It's the enderdragon! It should teleport when fighting!
As a summary:
Void fog in the end - partially negated by a seeing potion
Obsidian pillar islands - being knocked off one almost certainly kills you, getting to them is difficult
Many islands instead of one big island - makes the end dragon more difficult
End dragon teleports when fighting - why hasn't this been added already?
I like all these ideas, especially the 'narrow bridge' one. This would add to the dragons best ability as of right now: knocking you off things. :wink.gif:
Nice suggestion. Also they should add someone to The End....It's like the nether when it was first out, theres one thing to collect, and thats kinda it. Its very hard to get to the The End legitly, so shouldn't there be a reason to?
Time limit's also too hard, I beat the dragon in a little under an hour, and this was on creative with a diamond sword.
Why shouldn't crystals be destroyed by arrows? That's a complete waste of ladders.
The dragon breathing fire isn't too bad, but only some of the time. Otherwise it's way overpowered.
Wha...why should they be on other islands? That makes the whole thing almost impossible on survival with the Endermen about...
WHAT?!
Have you ever seen a boss monster teleport within this large a radius? Tell me, what game, so I can show everyone the game that's impossible for anyone to beat.

Well that's the thing, it's the end. You will most certainly need everything the game has to offer. It makes sense, given it's the end. :tongue.gif:
Notch even said he'd like the end to be almost unbeatable, that if he can beat it it's too easy.
It's the final boss, the end of minecraft. What's wrong with making it hard?

Yeah, hard, not impossible.
It makes no sense to turn the end into a super-mega-ultra-OP'd-might-as-well-stab-myself-it's-faster-incredibly-destructive-uncontrolled-rampant-impossible task.
You want to see what I mean? Basically, you asked for the End to be played blindfolded, within an hour, with only melee weapons, with a teleporting, fire-breathing, flying boss with 200 hitpoints and a health restoration system.
Now, if this isn't overpowered I want you to get up out of the chair you've been sitting in for the past 10 or so years and open a curtain.

1. That's the problem, we need a reason to actually use potions.
2.It took me about 10min on creative and 20 on survival, how about an 8min potion just like fire resistant potion?
3.I think crystals should be destroyed by arrows, the dragon would destroy anything you place next to the obsidian tower and it's a pain more then a challenge really so I agree with you on that.
4.Agree
5.Enderman don't kill you on sight so that's not a problem whatsoever.
6.Sephiroth was a great boss to fight because he teleported randomly and it wouldn't be hard to make a dragon that goes through all objects teleport around.
7.Agree

He did not say the void just void fog :tongue.gif:
I actually did say it was in the void :tongue.gif:
But there should still be void fog, or a void-fog like addition.
Bit difficult for Steve to handle :tongue.gif:
