Being relatively new to minecraft (and these forums) maybe I shouldn't be posting this - but here it goes anyway... :tongue.gif:
I play mostly Anarchy survival servers that don't allow for locking of chests(I know that some servers do allow for this).
It seems that no matter how far from spawn or how low to bedrock, or how much I try to hide my chest(s), someone always seems to find it! I assume at least some of the time it's x-rayers?. It's not uncommon at all to see cheaters (people flying around, and then getting banned) on the servers I play on, so it doesn't seem a stretch to assume that there's plenty of people using x-ray as well.
So previously I either hid my chests or I'd have to carry all my valuables with me (in my personal inventory) and totally stress out as to whether someone is sneaking up behind me at any given moment ..or if my next step my be into a pool of lava (I know - man up !).
I understand that this is the way the games played but sometimes when I lose all my stuff to lava. or to another player (especially if I think he's cheating) it gets so frustrating that often I don't feel like playing the game for awhile.
So here's what I did. I signed up for another minecraft account!
I find a good place underground (maybe 2000 blocks or so from spawn) and set up a base near bedrock. Then I logout with that account and login with my other account and travel from spawn back to the base that I previously created with the other account. I'll pick one of my accounts as the one that I'll hold all of valuables(Diamonds, food, etc) and the other for when I go mining or exploring dungeons or pvp'ing.
If I had a good run on diamond mining, ill temporarily put them in a chest, log out with that account and then log back in with my other account. Then I'll grab the diamonds, etc that I just placed in that chest, put them in my personal inventory and then log back out and switch back to the previous account. I ALWAYS break down my chest and put it back into my personal inventory after doing the valubles switch - to help to avoid being ambushed by the all-seeing xrayers.
This technique has brought my stress/aggravation levels down to almost zero. Now if I get ambushed or fall I only lose whatever I decided to carry on the "exploring" account...my diamonds food and other valuables still safe in my personal inventory of my other account. If I die, I can always respawn, run back to my base, logout and switch back to my "valubles" account, then re-supply my "exploring/mining" account and repeat.
One more advantage to two accounts is that if i happen to be carrying valuables that I don't want to lose, and I run into another player who is getting the best of me in a fight and I have to exit out to avoid death(and loss of items) - I can always log in with the other account go to the spot of my "death" and survey the area for any freshly created lava pit that someone might have left for me in case I respawn there. If I see one, Ill just destroy it, switch accounts and re-spawn knowing that death is not awaiting me.
I realize that not everyone wants to pay for 2 accounts...but for all the hours I've been playing this game, it seemed well worth it to me.
Again, I know I'm a noob...but this works for me, so I thought I'd share.
seems like a hassle.
and thats why you have to go like 4000 blocks out on the x and z cordinates and not leave a trail or anything. the only thing you shud do is rigt down the cords. and nobody will find you and your chests will be safe.
also whats the point in servers if you dont play with anyone.....

I'll sometimes leave my base for some pvp..and occasionally I'll ally up with people. But if I die I don't lose everything...and I don't have to worry at ALL about my chest being discovered - because I always break it down between "switches" and keep all valuables that I don't want to lose in my personal inventory of the other account.
I get your point though. I've tried going out 3000 to 5000+ blocks to setup a base, but boy do I feel completely alone then...and if something goes wrong and I die and wind up at spawn, it takes a such a long time to get back to base. I find that to be too much hassle.
