First of all, food should go bad over a certain amount of time.
If uncooked - 10 minecraft days
if cooked - 20 minecraft days
Rotten flesh is already bad...
bread cant be frozen
mushroom stew cant be frozen either
if the food has gone bad, then it poisons you.if you cook the food it stays bad, but fills more hunger, so add freezers! smooth stone in the shape of a chest. powered by snow balls or snow blocks (x4 longer) it works like a chest to store food, but it will freeze it. I You must melt it in a furnace to eat it again =) Expireing time is tripled.
when food goes bad, it will make a seperate stack (if possible) or will drop on the ground
1 slot for freezer, 2 for double freezer.
or! use iron ingots to make a better freezer that locks in for cold air to freeze food faster using less fuel.
for normal freezer.
for better freezer (credit to FizzyAgent2304, thanks ^-^)
also, turn water into ice block if you need an indoor ice rink XD
white particles come out if it has fuel (more for stone, less for iron) lots come out when openning with fuel left.
good idea but i would make a fridge 2 iron blocks on top of each other in a crafting bench to make a 2 block high fridge with fuel on 1 side and storage slots on the other
good idea but i would make a fridge 2 iron blocks on top of each other in a crafting bench to make a 2 block high fridge with fuel on 1 side and storage slots on the other
actually i was planning this...
-Like a chest, regularly has 1 slots for food storage, double has 2 slots
-each storage slot has an arow pointing to another (were frozen food comes out)
-at the bottom has water proplets to show how much fuel it has.
Iron would be a much better choice of material than stone. Maybe just making a circle with iron ingots on a Crafting Bench (same form as a chest or furnace).
I like the idea of a freezer, instead of a fridge, because I feel that a freezer would better fit Minecraft.
As much as I like it, I don't think it's possible with stackable food. After all, you cant make a stack out of food with different timings. And if flesh isn't stackable anymore, I would just use bread which can be made any time at will.

Desided to add 2 kinds. Stone and Iron (read above)
Furnaces chould be like that too.
= iron bars
makes an upgraded furnace that opens and closes to trap in more
heat =D

I read everything, but I only read how a freezer would work, not how food that goes bad after some time could work. At least not unless you choose to do it like tools which get damaged for every second they are not in a freezer, which would mean one food item per slot. And thats stupid.

i added depending on when you got it, it would come out in a new stack as bad food or if full it will have to be thrown on the ground, but i dont think this is possible...

Maybe it is because I'm not a native speaker, but I think you dont really get my concerns. I want you to understand me, but i I'm wrong, feel free to correct me :wink.gif:
It's not about the actuel process of food turning into bad food. I think it's easier if I make an example. Let's sey you kill a pig and it drops pork. As soon as the item is created, it needs a timestamp it has to remember, because somehow it the game needs to know how old it is. When you kill another pig the next day, the new pork has another timestamp. So the two porks are not exactly the same and can't be stacked. But let's say there is a workaround to have items in a stack with different timestamps - even then there are problems. If you are hungry and eat the pork - which one is it? The oldest or the newest? Probably the oldest, because thats more favorable for the player - but what if you got more than 64? Of course, the 65. pork it the one on the new stack, so do you have to eat one of the 64-stack to get the oldest, or is it unimportant from which stack you feed? That's even more important when you cook or freeze it, because you would probably want to freeze the oldest (so it can be used later anyway) but cook the newest (cooking doubles the endurence of the pork, so it has more effect on fresh pork).
I know you just had an idea you wanted to spread, and its a nice one. But I think it would be very hard to sort out the problems I mentioned just now and would have some influences on other mechanics (there are more things than just food that would change over time. After all, if there were a freezer in the game, would it make sense to store snow in a chest next to the furnance?) Is the implemention of food that goes bad really important enough to take all that into account?

i dont realy know how to answer this...
*thinking music starts*
what you can do is have a timer on the food showing the oldest food time left and the newest food, eating will always use the oldest, and placing one by one will also use the oldest to newest...Having it show the oldest and newist will also give you an idea of what is in between
or the food could just go bad randomly (no...just no...)
i dont know if its possible, its only a matter of time...

Maybe it would be an invisible identifier, that doesn't affect stacking.
If you have 1-day-old raw porkchop, a 2-day-old raw porkchop, and a 5-day-old raw porkchop in a stack, if you eat FROM it, you'll consume the 5-day-old one before the other 2.
I think the idea of food rotting is an "ok" idea.
But there are other methods that are much simpler then adding an entirely new block into the game. Have you considered salting the meat to preserve it? OR perhaps steaming the meat until it is preserved. OR maybe even pickling the meats? A freezer is complicated, I honestly would prefer using SEA SALT to preserve meats because SEA SALT would be relatively easier then making a freezer.

I don't support this topic. Sorry :sad.gif:
its ok...
i guess it depends anyways
if it snows, water freezes, make freezer
if theres no snow, freezer doesnt work, get sea salt
but this means that the ocean would need a different water to get salt from...or you could just make an infinint spring and get infinint salt which means no rotting food

Wow, you took a lot of stuff into consideration. I applaud you, sir. Anyways, it would take a lot of tedious coding to implement the simple idea of a freezer(Time Lapsed, which items in the stack of food are rotten etc).
Maybe you could make freezers out of something like this:
Where is 1 glass pane.
In snowy areas, it requires no fuel.
In ordinary areas, it requires snow-based things as fuel.
In warm areas, it requires twice as much fuel.
But, with this complicated recipie, food would take longer to rot.
