Jeb said that the minecraft 1.7 release will be the "Ocean Update":

One of reasons I still play on my old 1.7.4 beta worlds is the old terrain generation around my spawn area. I can see from my house the terrain from the time when I started playing the game (the video below shows a bit of my world). The new terrains were generated as I explored the map farther, until today.

I like the current terrain generation more for its variety and realism, but the hills covered with trees and the wide sand beaches were pretty much the Minecraft's signature, they gave some kind of fantasy character to the game, these should come back in the "Ocean Update".

And that's not what this thread is asking for. It doesn't say that beaches should be deserts without cacti. I'm not even saying that those "deserts" are ugly. Also the thread was created before large biomes were added.

This is a very good idea! I did notice the beaches nowadays in minecraft are just sloped hills with sand. Don't look very good. 100% Support!
