In the large biomes world generator option (which is in the latest snapshot, not sure if it's in 1.2.5), beaches are definitely back, in spades even. Though, I'm not sure if they're properly back in the normal generator.

I was expecting a well thought out idea and a mature series of thoughts.

I'm not sure what more you guys want out of beaches, they seem pretty cool as they are now.

I just kind of miss the days when you always spawned on them, but that might just be me. I do agree about the underwater bedding though, right now it's a patchwork mess. So, eh, what the heck.

Also in the first pic, not a lot of sand blocks are consecutively at water level.

I was on large biomes yes, but large biomes is simply a 16x magnification of the default generator, or so the wiki would have me believe. The beaches in the screenshots are much larger than what I captured, so the default beaches would likely bear a resemblance. However, upon revisiting the analogous location in the default generator, I can see the thread's point a bit more than I already did. Default beaches are too small as compared to what they once were, but while waiting for this to be rectified, I suppose anyone who craves beaches right now can use the large biomes option.

If it makes a difference, I think the entire generator needs a reset back to the alpha/beta days. There used to be variation and excitement in the terrain generator. Now, all biomes are alike. There's no point in exploring. Everything is the same.

It's still no excuse as to why the default generation is shitty. They need to fix what they broke rather than adding to the pile.

I know. Hence why I "/signed" my support in an earlier post and suggested that while waiting for the problem to be rectified that people who'd like to visit decent beaches can use the large biomes generator.

I completely agree with this. I liked the old beaches better, that's my main issue with the terrain generation now. The second is with mountains, but that's less of a problem. But mostly beaches. They were so much better before 1.8, and I loved those gravel beaches. Simply amazing.

My one reservation is how clay would be generated. Keep in mind that prior to Beta 1.8, bricks were fairly rare as a building material, since so little clay spawned. I'd like to see clay worked into the world generation system like gravel is: random patches on or near the surface, and more random patches in caves and underground.

A very nice beach I found near the spawn point of my IGN seed (16pixels), MC version:12w25a.

And I don't really like gravel beaches. No support.

I do agree that beaches should be given the glory they deserve, I do not want to see beaches everywhere I go. That's not how real life works, and that's not how I want Minecraft to work, because frankly, I don't like sand that much. I got sick of it before they were 'removed' and I'm just now starting to not get annoyed every time I see it next to water. At least, when it's in a pretty shape of course. Where beaches do occur, I want them to be beautiful.
