The Mummies are underdeveloped here. Mummies in pyramids were placed there as a way to the pharaoes to keep his body and possessions even in death, and even servants. So, if there are mummies, probably there are treasures as well.
Also, we all listened at least once stories about the Mummy's Curse. It happened, thanks to a fungus that developed for hundreds of years inside of a pyramid's chamber. So, Mummies could be able to:
-> Curse a equipment, making it unequipabble, except with time, death or a Anti-Curse Potion.
-> Make hunger, similar to the effects of a Rotten Meat.
-> Confuse. Works until 30 seconds have passed.
-> Poison, similar to Cave Spiders.
Of course, not all mummies can do all of above, perhaps some more important in life have more abilities...

Wise Men's Chamber: Room with books, material for enchanting and a Enchanting Table. A mummy can be found here as well.
Engeneering Failure: Room that would be something, but unfornately has been bad built. It's in a state of ruins, and it's the most probable room with connections to other areas, including caves.
Ritual Chamber: room where the dead would be prepared to the After Life. There are some mummies, jackals, and an unactivated portal to the Nether. This portal has been activated before and so can be found in the hellish dimension as well.
No, seriously.
Sandstone brick should have a greater durability than Sandstone (maybe 15?) and appear all over pyramids.
But with NPC villages...
Could villages spawn within pyramids?
Abandoned Mineshafts can spawn into strongholds.
It'll happen at least once.

Hate to say but pyramids are all over the world. A lot in south america, and some are in deserts.
By the way I do really like this idea.
