Have you ever had that one Iron ingot left over after making all those Iron bars for your house? Or that extra diamond, but no need for jukeboxes or shovels? Perhaps you would like to make a sword, or hoe, but do not have sufficient resources? Wouldn't it be nice to combine an Iron, gold, ingot or diamond gem to make a sword? Hoe? Pickaxe? Or any other tool except a shear and shovel? The recipe would look something like the following, using diamonds and Iron ingots as an example.
to create an Iron tipped diamond sword, making the sword as durable as a it's diamond counterpart, but does the same damage as an Iron blade. If you had wanted to make a blade that would have as much durability as an Iron sword but could do as much damage as it's diamond counterpart, it would look something like this.
But now, you ask, how would this possibly work with a pickaxe? An Axe? ((A hoe would be the same recipe, but horizontally)) well, it would be like this.
This is for an Iron pickaxe with diamond tips, whereas the Iron tipped Diamond pickaxe looks something like this:
An axe would look something such as...
And for a diamond tipped axe would look something such as...
Well, that's about it, all tools would to same damaged as the tip of the weapon allows, for instance, a diamond tipped axe would do as much as a regular diamond axe.

I agree. Maybe I can make this a mod when I decide to start modding :biggrin.gif:!
It certainly isn't more complex than potions or enchantments, and I would love to have some extra tools to texture!
Execution: 6/10
Reasonable: 8/10
Balance: 9/10
Overall: 7.75/10

trimming and tipping tools and armor increases there durability.
you would craft a normal tool, then craft it with one of the material like so
this would be a diamond tipped iron pickaxe
for armor it would be like this
this is a diamond trimmed iron armor
- you obviously can't trim or tip tools/armor of the same material (no diamond tipped diamond picks sorry)
- the rules for mining still apply, tipping a stone pick with diamond will not allow you to mine gold, redstone etc.
- durability is added based on a scale
*wood(leather for armor) +30-50 durability
*gold +10-20 durability(increases chance of getting higher level enchantments a bit)
*stone +80-120 durability
*iron +130-180 durability
*diamond + 400-500 durability
