We have potions and enchantments... why not spells?
The spell system would work like this:
- You create a staff out of 3 iron put in a diagonal shape.
- You craft an Elemental Crystal onto the staff.
In order to craft these elemental crystals, you must find certain gems underground. All of these gems are as rare as diamonds and have slight rarity differences, but they come in clusters half the same size as coal. These gems can only be found in levels 25 to 0. These gems are:
Sapphire: A light blue crystal that is in between lapis lazuli and diamond's colour. Use 9 of these to make a water crystal. They are the most common of these gems, because their effect is the weakest.
Ruby: A pinkish red crystal. Use 9 of these to make a fire crystal. They are the second most common, less rare as diamond but more rare than sapphire, because their effect is not that strong, but it is better than sapphire.
Topaz: A dark yellow/amber crystal that can be crafted in 9 into a thunder crystal. Rarer than ruby, it is just as rare as diamond.
Emerald: It can be crafted in 9 into a nature crystal. These are rarer than topaz.
Amethyst: Use 9 of these to make an ender crystal. Rarer than the other crystals, because its effect is extremely powerful.
If you attach these crystals to staffs, you can make a certain type of staff. Here are the staff types. They all deal 3 damage on impact, and fire snowball-like projectiles that are affected by gravity. They all fire once per 3 seconds, and have a durability.
HOWEVER THOUGH, note that all staffs that are crafted will not function until you activate them with an enchantment table. The enchantment table will not apply any effects to the staff, but it will activate it. The staff will look dark when unactivated, and have the word Unactivated in its item name. They all cost 2 exp levels to activate.
Water staff: Its projectile will freeze a water block when it hits water, create a snow "plate" on non water blocks, and when you hit a MOB with the projectile, the MOB will not be able to move for 1 second.
Fire staff: Its projectile catches what it hits on fire. Costs 8 exp levels to activate.
Nature staff: If you fire this at dirt, it will grow a tree, and if you fire this at a MOB, the MOB will be healed back to full health, so it is not a weapon but more of a healing tool. You can heal yourself by firing the projectile at your feet. Costs 16 exp levels to activate.
Thunder staff: A lightning bolt will come down onto the block or MOB that you shoot with this staff.
Ender staff: This staff is epic: Whatever MOB you fire this at will make it completely disappear, leaving behind its items. Whatever player you fire this at will be transported to the End, not leaving behind his items. But if you fire this on yourself while in the end, you will be transported to a random place in the overworld. It has no effect on endermen, and will only make them teleport away, and it has zero effect on ender dragons.
The elemental crystals can also be used in place of flint when crafting arrows to make certain arrows. Each recipe will make 4 arrows. You must make a bow using the specific crystals in order to use these arrows, so for example, a fire bow will only shoot fire arrows, ice bows only shoot ice arrows, etc.
Ice arrow - Freezes an enemy for half a second.
Fire arrow - Catches an enemy on fire, but for a shorter time.
Nature arrow - Poisons an enemy for the same time you are poisoned when you eat a spider eye.
Thunder arrow - Brings down a thunder bolt onto the enemy that does a bit less damage and not catch it on fire.
Ender arrow - Teleports you to where you fired the arrow, but without damaging you.
well I like the idea for magic in the game. but having so few spells would be kinda lame.. I am thinking more of a bunch of spells and you can craft multiple staffs with elements of course. but also do magic with your hands, but with hands it would be weaker. but you cant over power it because then it would make mine craft lame. but good idea , I hope to see something like this in a future update. kinda a skyrim approach to magic..

I think multiple spells for each element would overcomplicate it, and it should simply be left as magical projectiles, but thanks for your input. :smile.gif:
Did you suggest iron staffs that should have to be activated with an enchantment table, and suggest that they should all fire snowball-like projectiles with different effects, and that the crystals for the staffs should be made from precious ores found underground? Because if you did, that is a MASSIVE coincidence.
I think this idea would be cool but it doesn't have enough options to choose from. I think it would be cool to make like certain wands of power level and you can implement books and use them to learn new spells
