Insanity Ideas presents..... Hot Air Balloons! Woot.
Soooo, here's what I just said with a bit more description. First, Hot Air Balloons. I saw some cruddy-arsed idea about riding an Ender dragon, and someone posted "Nah man, no dragon riding, zeppelins for the win". Zeppelins would be nice, but a giant helium fueled cube-shaped airship just doesn't fit. So instead, hard to craft and difficult to control Hot Air Balloons. You would have to craft several things. First, leather skin.

Now to put that all together to make a balloon. Note how a furnace is used.

Now, you've got a pretty dang awsome hot air balloon. You have to find a suitable area for it to fit in. It's about eight-ten blocks high, and the gas bag part of it is four blocks wide. The basket itself is one block. The gasbag part is the same red colour as the default bed. The basket looks like a boat with skinny fences holding it to the gasbag. The furnace is out of sight. More to come on the design.
Anyway, now that you've got a badarse balloon. Right click the basket to enter it. Now, it's time for some flight. Two bars appear on your screen. One is titled "Altitude", while the other is titled "Speed". Both will change as you get higher or go faster. To go higher, you use the Up and Down arrow keys. For controlling your speed, you use the W and S keys. The way the two bars work is that they have a little blue line on them, each which moves. If you go up, the blue line on Altitude moves right. If you go down, it moves left. If you go faster, the blue line on Speed moves right. If you go slower, it moves left. If you slow enough, you'll start going backwards.
You'll also note, in the middle of the right half of the Altitude bar is a red line. If your blue line moves past that, you've gone too high and you risk puncturing the gas bag. The higher you go past that red line, the closer you are to puncturing the gas bag. If it punctures, then your balloon will start to lower, slowly at first. After a few seconds, it will start picking up speed. Then, when it hits the ground, it shatters into pieces, killing your character. If you go back to the crash site, you'll find scattered pieces of Leather, Leather Skin, and the Basket (Not the Ballooning Basket.).
The red line point in height terms is 30 blocks above the sky limit. For Altitude, it measures how high the player has gone, not the top of the balloon.
On the subject of fire : Don't light your balloon on fire. If you light the basket on fire, put it out. If you light the gas bag on fire, run. If the gasbag is on fire for too long, it will explode. The explosion will not destroy blocks, but it will set fire to nearby wood and will damage the player.
I will be adding more to this post. Point out things I forgot, or could expand on, etc.
That looks seriously Overpowered, dangerous if left out too long, and extremely technologically advanced for Minecraft...
Overpowered? Maybe, it could be. Perhaps the furnace could be replaced with some sort of netherrack and iron device. However, with animals being rare (Although, breeding could fix that), the leather could be harder to get. I wouldn't say extremely. I place minecraft in the 1500s or 1600s, and they had the basic idea of balloons back then. For the "Dangerous if left out" bit, well, please explain so I can respond.

[quote=Badgerz]You have to keep in mind that people are stupid.
[quote=Catelite]Just because you don't understand how something works, doesn't make it broken or pointless. >_<
And who are you, the proud lord said, that I must bow so low?
Only a cat of a different coat, that's all the truth I know.
In a coat of gold or a coat of red, a lion still has claws,
And mine are long and sharp, my lord, as long and sharp as yours.
And so he spoke, and so he spoke, that lord of Castamere,
But now the rains weep o'er his hall, with no one there to hear.
Yes now the rains weep o'er his hall, and not a soul to hear.
