Ever place lava, and accidentally have it flood the whole place? Then you try to get rid of it, and it turns into a big mess? Or if you're mining, and just want to get rid of that lava pool? Well, then try the Nether Sponge (Name is in the works). Simply combine Soul Sand and Netherrack together in the crafting table like so:
Which will combine the thick absorbing power of Soul Sand, and the fire resistant properties of the Netherrack, thus creating the Nether Sponge!
Placing a Nether Sponge near lava will destroy all lava blocks (Source block or not) in a 3x3x3 vicinity. After it has absorbed any amount of lava, the Nether Sponge will convert into a Flaming Nether Sponge, and gain:
-A more fiery appearance
-Glow very slightly (Redstone ore glow)
-Drip lava particles (Same drip particles from the other system
-Deal low damage on contact (1/2 a heart)
-Prevent lava from flowing into the 3x3x3 vicinity
*It can no longer absorb lava, but can be used as a decoration, or for [very bad] defending.
*You may drain the sponge of the lava by placing it in a source block of water (Water is not affected whatsoever, save for the usual "it's flowing water now"
Hopefully this isn't too overpowered, I mean, you could still have the danger of falling into lava when mining, but now if lava is in your path, it isn't so tedious to remove it, out of the way.
they need to make sponge work again too and have it grow in the ocean biome.
Eh, while most people are raging about the sponge, it is beyond easy to drain water out, simple find the source, close it, and within seconds it's gone.
Lava is the big problem for me, having worked with it forever (I'm a Nether-nut), it's annoying to either manually destroy the blocks, or MCediting it.

Changing it to 3x3...
You can drain it now~
