I was playing around with some explosives in Minecraft and when I set off a bunch of big ones I had a very large lag problem. I was down to 1 fps or so, sitting in the massive crater that went down to bedrock, miserable for a few minutes, when all of a sudden, *WAAAA!* FPS shot up to 90 and all was good. It was at that moment that the dropped items from the explosion despawned. It would seem to me that the massive lag was definitely due to the many dropped items, and probably due to the fact that each one had to be animated bobbing up and down. This seems similar to the reports of the massive lags caused by xp orbs when someone died. So if there was a graphics option to turn this animation off and have the dropped item just sit there, it might save a bit of processing power in the case of lots and lots of drops.

Seriously, there needs to viewable crafting recipes in the game. Go support this idea. Also click on my profile to view my space thread under find content.
There should be an option to disable all idle animations, but I don't think that that's the main problem.
It's because entities follow physics, and the game has to simulate physics for all of them. With more entities, like dropped items, mobs, falling sand, primed tnt, etc... there's more lag.
is there any mod with such option? I blew a couple of nukes and now with any options in optifine MT and with changing to default textures still it is 1 fps
This actually sounds like a really good idea.
