Sneaking, currently allows us to easily build bridges across voids, teabag, and let us not trample our crops. I want more functionality to this. Sneaking should "quietly" open doors, chests, and possibly reduce the sound emitted when a pressure plate is stepped on.
For SMP, it would be useful if one wants to access a hidden chest without anyone noticing, quietly ambush a guard tower, or simply playing a practical joke. At worst, it would open up to a new way of griefing, forcing the more paranoid players to invest in iron doors and various security methods. For hardcore servers, this can make having a police force more viable
For SSP, this would be mostly a cosmetic feature. Though, might come in handy if villagers and mobs were developed more. That is, if the player finds it necessary to acquire items "right away" through thievery from the NPCs.
It would be very cool but they would HAVE to make your name more transparent to boot(while sneaking) otherwise you would still be fairly obvious.
Yeah, that's true, recounting my experiences with seeing people's name-tags through walls. Though hearing a door slam is the first thing that starts me looking. I really want to reserve that for another suggestion.
Perhaps sneaking onto a pressure plate does not activate the plate. This would be extremely useful for not setting off traps that you have built. Or avoiding the traps of others in SMP...
Should sneaking have no effect on wooden pressure plates, but work well on stone pressure plates? The basis of my thinking: Why do we need to make stone pressure plates when others can sneak over them?
Maybe, pressure plate activation should become more delayed, in that it takes some time for a sneaking player to activate them. For wooden pressure plates, that delay is shorter, forcing players to continue moving. While for stone pressure plates, that standing delay is longer. Think having a boot enchantment for this might work?

I wouldn't make a difference between types of pressure plates and no one would make traps if this were the case.
Personally I've never seen the purpose of traps except just a frivolous way to kill someone. I don't think the sneak aspect should deal will traps, just more with breaking and entering. Theft, homicide, and revenge oh my! :laugh.gif:

Yep, that's the gist of it! I'd leave the trap part up to a "light step" enchant. Any thoughts on the SMP side? While for would be thieves and trespassers might enjoy this, what would would-be victims think?
I hide my bases so I've never been raided but I think this would just be awesome. I think every game with long range weapons needs some kind of sneak to make it that much cooler.
