Swamps in r/l are ugly, and some may not be. Swamps don't need to be beautiful to be great. It's related to the real world, so it should stay in just like it is.
Let me put it this way. How would you feel if not h hard coded the entire terrain.png? now. I like the default textures, but I also LOOVE texture packs. That's what we want. To be able to edit it. Doesn't matter if you like it, but one of the best parts of mine craft is the ability to edit everything, and this limits that greatly. The code notch used is sloppy anyways. I love the man, but he could've just added to the biome shading .pngs like ALL OTHER BIOMES rather than this hard coded shader.

Would it be too much of a bother to have the swamp colors changeable like the other biome colors? But then again, we have to think about why they coded the swamp colors like this anyways. Perhaps it was because the biome codes weren't made to accept new biomes so easily? I don't mod, so I don't know the exact reason why it turned out like this. And perhaps if a solution is found through mods, maybe we could get our results faster?

WOAH, WAIT. Our eyes take pictures? Please tell me I can recover these pictures from another person.
You have to stick a thumb drive up their nose, drag and drop the pictures onto it, and then load them through your ear.
I can live with ugly swamps. I can work around the fact that while I would have reseeded this world had I known about the nasty swamp, I can still work around it with what I and others have built on my server. The issue is I built near the edge of some plains that are next to an ocean. Having the dark swampland cut in so sharply with this grassland looks extremely awkward, especially since I had started growing crops and they are half in the swamp itself. Hard coding a tint is fine, but it should not make the land so dark, and it definitely needs more of a gradient from the previous biome. Best case would be to modify the biome gradient file to include the swamp file so we can at least blend to taste. My first instinct was to fire up PS and lighten something, but there is nothing to lighten.
When I start a new seed, if I'm in a swamp, or see one nearby, or see a swampy water transition nearby, I delete the world and re-seed. I used to love swamps. :sad.gif:
Can't we add the swampy grass color transition into the existing grass color transitions, and make swamp trees have their own unique trunk & sapling? This would solve the swamp inconsistency problems... (Also, since swamp trees can be generated in 1-unit-deep water, the swamp tree saplings should be allowed to be planted that way.)

I know Mojang can do better, and hopefully they will take action on our behalf.
