WEll I heard a lot of people who werent content or stalisfied with the ending for minecraft in 1.0.0, and I have what I think is a great idea to solve this.
What Ive heard is that you have to defeat a dragon and after retrieving a dragon egg you win the game. I came up with a cool ending that will definitely be better IMO
After you find the end portal and defeat the dragon, the game is not over. You take the dragon egg with you as an inventory item back to the regular minecraft world. This dragon egg can be hatched after placing it in a decently sized area, and would hatch after a couple days exposed to light. It will hatch as a baby dragon that you must raise into a mature dragon, and it will somewhat behave as a wolf follower but you have to feed it for it to mature.
Once the dragon is mature, you can ride the dragon; however the dragon will only take you to one place: a secret place in the desert/remote terrain somewhere rather far from spawn. When you arrive you will see a small ruin with brick distinguished from the stronghold's brick or something like this, and there will be a small entrance.
Just so if someone accidentally finds this entrance, the brick will be indestructible and the door will require a key. This key will probably be something like a button that cannot be crafted and only works with this one door, and will probably be in the same style as the door. I am not sure how you would get this key, but I would propose that it would be in a nether stronghold chest. Below poster said that it would be cool if the dragon flies through the ruins instead of having a key, that sounds like another cool thing.
Once you have the key and the dragon took you there, you will go through the door. I will leave it up to the devs to create what is behind this door, a teleport to a new endgame land would be cool though.
So that is my proposal for the end game of minecraft, cheers. You might say "Notch already made the endgame", but I feel that this will be a better endgame for the audience of minecraft. Minecraft community members demand no end to minecraft, and I feel this is a really good way to fulfill this want.
Nice idea of an ending. That would be cool "after-game". And after you find the ruins with dragon, you should fly through it with dragon. That would be cool, and you couldnt get in without dragon.
thats actually a pretty good idea to incorporate the dragon like that, to destroy the entrance or something because it is indestructable
