There are some mods that add a bunch of newer weapons to Minecraft like crossbows, guns, and cannons, but Minecraft should be a medieval-themed game (since it is already with the medieval weapons and medieval fantasy). I have a couple of ideas to make the weapons more interesting but still pretty basic.
First of all, the game should have an onager-like catapult that fires shots with a blast radius slightly smaller than a ghast ball but with enough power to break cobble. It shouldn't ignite stuff unless you add a potion to it. It should have to be placed on the ground to be used (like a cake).
Secondly, individual arrows and catapult ammo should be modifiable with certain potions like fire (to ignite stuff), explosion (a small blast), poison, as well as whatever you can put in a splash potion. Also, I'm thinking that the explosion and fire potions should be throwable like splash potions.
Bows and catapults should be enchantable for more range, better catapult accuracy, (maybe) more damage, and faster reload.
Lastly, TNT should be a bit more powerful. As it is, it can only blast a hole in solid smooth stone with a radius of 3 :huh.gif: and with explosive arrows and catapults, TNT should be more powerful since it is something you actually place on the ground and ignite like a bomb. Compare a grenade to a time bomb...
And it's not easy to obtain.
ADDITION: Also, boats should be enchantable for more speed!

I guess it sounds like I have, but in fact I've never played it.
I actually hate fantasy stuff because of its cheesiness, but it's not such a bad idea if used in moderation. Minecraft is already an unauthentic medieval game, so it's not bad to make the potions actually useful.
But what would be the point of a catapult? You aren't besieging castles of doom- you're just poking Creepers.
Enchanting your arrows would be cool, though.
I just wanted the catapult so you can actually destroy cobble structures at range. The bomb arrows are not powerful enough, nor should they be powerful enough to destroy that much cobble. In multiplayer or when attacking enemy villages, it would be useful. Besides, wouldn't catapult-firing NPCs be kinda scary (in a good way)?
This thread has a few ideas, so if the catapult idea is not accepted enough (so far it isn't) then that's OK. I'm kind of extremist in that I like to have medieval castles and stuff.
This is a good idea, but the catapults are a bit too over-the-top. The weapons should stay simple. I mean, it COULD be in a mod, but it shouldn’t be vanilla.

I guess it is pretty extreme. Well, maybe the small explosive arrows will be enough for now.
Oh, if you insist, I'll post here, just to stop the sad procession of bumps... Firstly, I do think that there should be more arrow types, including a craftable fire arrow (like the current one you get when firing through lava, but able to set stuff on fire). Less sure about an explosive arrow. Secondly, catapults are hardly needed because most of the time you can easily go through a fortress wall with a decent pick. Catapults would also be VERY vulnerable to counter-battery fire, like TNT cannons now (although they'd probably be faster to fire...).
I quite fancy the idea of covering a sword in a potion (although you'd then end up with some pretty confusing swords if they got enchanted as well), but I'm less sure about arrows, simply because you'd need some means of choosing which arrow you fired. Perhaps the unused quiver could be used for this purpose? Then again, how would you be able to switch quickly from 'potion' arrows to normal ones? I'd say it's a bit too complex for the amount of gameplay enhancement it would bring.
I am having second thoughts about the catapult, actually.
And to answer your question about which arrows it uses, switching to the arrows you want to fire would actually bring up your bow (if you have it), which will fire the selected arrows. That's as simple as choosing which sword you want to use. Selecting the bow itself can just make it fire the first arrows in the inventory (in a certain order) or do random.
