I think that Minecraft should have a Game Mode option to accompany the Difficulty option in SSP. Because a lot of downloaded maps (especially Flatmaps) are in the Survival Mode game type, yet if I want to use it for building, I either have to use a mod or put the world onto a Server and change my game type from there (set gamemode <player name> <game type (0 is Survival, 1 is Creative [I think])>).
That I find is too troublesome, as well as a non-permanent solution. If I download a mod it will be more work for me whenever I go on a world/server that doesn't allow that mod, and if I do it on a server it will slow down my laptop and only change the game mode for me, not the world itself.
Why should we add this feature in? Because:
- It would allow players to build starting homes in Creative Mode then switch to Survival (for those who don't like spending time on starting homes)
- It would allow players to test explosive damage/general damage taken for cliffs/TNT traps etc.
- Players who don't like it don't have to change it
Minecraft is and will always be a sandbox game. So if you limit the amount that you can do to the game, then it doesn't make it as sand-boxy.
There are maps out there that are flat and in creative mode. You haven't looked hard enough. Have you checked planet minecraft? And I don't think that should be added.

If there was an option for this then there shouldn't even be a survival mode when you can just change the ****ing mode of the map whenever you feel like it's "too hard".
If you want to build, and download other's maps then downloading 1 simple mod that can change the game mode from 0 to 1 and vise-versa shouldn't be a difficult problem for you. But, if you need spoon fed moar, then QQ more ploxx?
