I was thinking that notch should add "hard rocks" to the game, which is actually the same as normal stone except will drop 2 stones. It takes a little more then 2 times longer to mine and dig through.
The hardstone is also slightly darker then normal stone.
Rare near the surface but gets more common deeper down as you go, eventually out numbering normal stone near bedrock.
It would give the game a great sense of diversity, it would also force you to take time saving strategy.
Going around hard stone, staying a little higher from bed rocks, finding open caves would be a huge time saver near bed rocks.
It would make caves a little more interesting to look at, and you will notice how deep you are just by seeing how common hard rocks become.
What do you think?
Pardon English.

-Edit Ahaha not surprised people didn't like it.
-Edit " can't grammar" Looks whose talking. And good idea.
It would just make it even more annoying to go mining, and I think it takes long enough as it is mine, making it double the farther down you go would be even worse.

English is good though.
Many people probably hate this because you can't grammar.
I had a similar idea, just not natural:
Would equal reinforced stone, with over double the blast resistance, but still breakable with a wooden pickaxe.
