So I was thinking of something. Mixed biomes. It would work like this. The current biomes are the following
-Desert
-Forest
-Mountain
-Plains
-Tundra
-Taiga (removed I think. Too bad, they were my favorite)
-Swamp
-Pine forest
So basically keep all of these biomes in. But the catch is, is that there is a high chance they are going to be mixed with up to 2 other biomes. There are a few combinations that can't happen, but here are some that can.
-Forest : Mountains
Produces tree covered mountains
-Plains : Mountains
Produces rolling hills
-Desert : Swamp
Produces random oasis's that generate throughout the desert. Random clay deposits too
-Desert : Mountains
Produces occasional mountains, and many sand dunes
Biomes could also bleed into one another or be separated by a river like they currently are. So a mountain forest could bleed into rolling hills. There is still a chance for a biome to generate normally though.
I would actually like this a lot. The terrain in Minecraft is so plain (no pun intended).. I liked the old terrain generation, where everything was pretty much just random. This would fix that without actually removing the old biomes.

It wouldn't be so random, the biomes would definitely be distinct, but there would be randomness as to what the biome would actually be.
