Hello. I highly suggest minecraft should have a name change feature. I don't care if this topic has been posted before, this message needs to get across.
I have been waiting for about a year now for a name change feature. My minecraft account was created by a friend. They didn't think that your account login name would be the same as you in game name, so they called it jmhcc.
At first i wanted to change it to randomMINE, as my gamer name back then was random_____ (_____ being the whole or part of the name of the game). Now my gamer name is Mad Ninja (or maybe sometimes Mad N1nja).
I KNOW that many other people want to change their minecraft name too, so i really want to get this message out to Mojang or Notch.
Thankyou

Because it has, it has so many times... You picked the name, you knew what it would do, you had plenty of time to rethink your name, deal with it.
Edit: Even if your friend picked it, it's only a name. And you need to cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it.
I regret my YouTube name, "Opticalillusion431"
This doesn't mean I go around complaining to Google that they should make a name change feature because I screwed up.
A while back there was an unusable option in your profile settings on Minecraft.net that said "Change your username." So this leads me to believe they have set a placeholder for that feature. It may be here in the near future.

And to you, if you read his post you would know that his friend made his account for him and didn't think that his in-game name would be the same as his log-in name. Don't be ignorant.
yes, i do think that names should be changed, however, it should be like in the thread, everybody has its own name, if somebody has it, they have it.
and yes, this has been posted before, but you are right, this needs to get to mojang

GENERATION 21: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the
generation. Social experiment.

I realize that humans may not posses the ability to predict the future, but edits are a good thing to read.

Care to share why? Right now your post; and therefore argument, is extremely weak. Also (as a grammar Nazi) this is already, in your opinion, a horrible idea. Therefore you should have said "This would be a horrible addition to the game" or something of that sort.

He/she replied before you edited your post. And anyways, there should be no reason to edit your own post as it should have been properly thought through the first time.
To use words of your own (slightly edited of course): You posted the message, you knew what it would do, you had plenty of time to rethink your post, deal with it.

I find reasons to edit my post all the time. For example, new information, and what you value so much; correct grammar and spelling.
There is a large difference between a post and a name. A post can have relevant information elsewhere that the poster does not know about, and when they find out, they must put it in their post for the benefit of other readers. A name in Minecraft, however, is a digital identification of who you are. There should be no new relevant information that should bring you need to edit your name, nor is there anyone who benefits from a change in a name besides the person who has the said name.
Personally I find "jmhcc" a much better name then "randomMINE" or "Mad Ninja" as, for one, it is easier to speak to you without picturing you as a person who sees themselves as a Minecraft fanboy, or someone who tends to be excessively random all the time (both, of which, can be annoying at most times on a server).
People find reasons to change their name. If it doesn't fit them anymore, or you just don't like it. A lot of people make acccounts when they are 10-12 years old, you think that they have the same mentality at 15? The 10 year old will name his account "poopoopeepee1234567" then at 15 go, "What the hell was I thinking..?" I think that's a good reason to allow name changes.
If you don't want a player getting on you server again, IP-ban them.. Not that hard. I have 4 accounts I can use.. That's bypassing bans, no? So should people also only be able to have one account? No.. They could implement a fee in order to change your name.. Like a $5 fee, if they are really worried about that. I see this happening in the near future ever since seeing the actual option on the profile settings.
Display name, that I can consider. Username changing is just stupidly no.
Servers usually give the service of /nick, though, so this'll be pretty useless.
Also, on your second question. NO, people should NOT have the same name like in Steam. Collision check must've been used (i.e putting in the name 'Notch'--case sensitive--is not allowed). It's easy to impersonate famous people that way. Worse, it's legit.

I'm leaving the forum, if anyone cared. You can find me on OC or FFR.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.
