Now ALL of us have fallen to our deaths at least once.
But now I have a idea! How about if you crouch at JUST the right time, it would buff out fall damage?
Now I'm not talking about that if you crouch it will make you invulnerable to fall damage, I'm talking about if you fall you deal, lets say, 5 hearts.
Now if you crouch before you hit the ground, it would deal about 2.5 hearts.
So now if you "forget" to crouch, it is always so fatal.
Who else thinks this sounds good to be in the game? And also I would like to point out, that most suggestions are like "He should add rocket launchers and flamethrowers!" which obviously would not fit in the game because it doesn't "feel" like minecraft, where this suggestion feels like it should already be in the game! Who is with me?!
This sounds like a good idea but the buffer should be less ore around it reduces 2 hearts always no more no less. This still encourages people to take the long way around a cliff
I like this idea but I don't think falling without sneaking is always fatal. I think that sneaking at the right time should half the fall damage and sneaking before falling should reduce the damage by 25%.
why is so many people saying this forum is filled with gun and bazooka ideas? I scimmed through the first page. The only silly idea I saw was about aliens.
the way minecraft is now, you survive a fall from 22 meters, or roughly 70 feet. in my opinion, the game the way it is now is so overpowered with regard to fall damage, its ridiculous. adding to this would just push it from ridiculous to absurd.
IF, minecraft, the way it was, had you fall and your character rotated, like a real fall, then it would be feasible that someone with some training, and a super amount of luck, could survive a 22 meter drop, only by landing legs first and doing the crouch and roll technique they teach in skydiving. but since it doesn't, it shouldn't be added.

Although I disagree, I thank you for your honesty and how proper you were, but I guess I'm thinking about if you had no armor at all, so if you were to fall off a cliff you would most likely die, but I guess if you had a little bit of diamond armor then I guess you could survive a fall into, lets say, a ravine.
Use the sword block. It puts the sword into the ground, slowing you down just before you hit bottom.
Agree with the "Sneaking Feather Fall" technique, and another one: using the pick when you are falling continuously in a wall, you can use it to accelerate a little slower, saving you of some damage.
Good for unawanted falls, not when a Creeper explodes you into the sky...
