The 'End Portal' isn't a slow-style transfer that everyone joked about with the Nether was released. It's very close to instantaneous.
Why can't the Nether portals operate the same way? They can still keep the "swirly-vision" effect they have - they can just freeze players and remove them from active existence the instant they step into the portal's area of effect, and display the swirly effect in a 'static' mode immediately before the transition to the Nether loading bar.
Those of you who have actually taken a look at the code - is there any reason why the technique used for the End portal can't be transferred to the Nether gates?

And I would think the reason the transfer to the End is so much quicker is because it's a lot smaller than the Nether.
No, no! I'm not complaining about the loading period, I'm complaining about the period of time between the moment the avatar enters the purple-cube-filled space, and the moment the player is taken 'into' the portal.
With the End portals, the moment you step into it, you're off. With the Nether, there's a period where the player can step out of the portal without being taken anywhere.

They should get rid of all of the portals in the game and replace them with the Wormhole Extreme Mod. Those stargates are Awesome! but seriously, its fine the way it is, different portals work differently, they could turn the volume down of the nethergate portal though, it gets irritating when you hear it constantly while you are a couple rooms away from it.

Oh wait! There is!

Shouldn't an interdimensional portal be instantaneous? Why would it take time to move us from one place to another?

I still fail to see much of a difference.
So wait. You've actually seen an inter dimensional portal? :blink.gif:
